I go to a small ALL BOYS high school and I REALLY want to do a great musical this year( we've already done Les Mis, Fiddler, Chess, JCS,Oliver and Guys and Dolls).
We only have 200 people in the entire school and not a lot of people are into musicals. I need a musical that is popular(in order to draw in an audience), with a leading male part who is in the centre of the show, and a big enough Chorus (So all the parents comes) and it does not have too many lead/supporting parts.
I was hoping to do Sweeney Todd but they said it was too violent, even with the school edition! Anyway hopefully you can help me!

By ALL BOYS you mean all young children? Or did you have all female parts from those shows played by young males?

Mmmm, sketchy post. The shows you've done call for big casts.
No i mean like teenagers aged 12-18 played any parts, the younger students obviously played the females.
And "Mmmm, sketchy post. The shows you've done call for big casts." Thats a bit rude, yes on Broadway and other productions they may have needed a big cast but we work around that. We did "Chess" last year and i think there was only 60 students in that maybe 70, and It was called the greatest stage show in the county that year.

Well if you just cast boys as girls, you can do anything you want. RENT, STEEL MAGNOLIAS, CHICAGO, RAGTIME, GYPSY...

So, "younger" male students performed numbers such as Take Back your Mink, On My Own, I Don't Know How to Love Him, I Know Him So Well, etc.
My first thought when I read the subject was 1776, which only requires two actresses, but I don't think that works with the model you're proposing. How about an all male production of A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum?
What's with all the trolling lately? If I want to become a troll, I'd make sure at least my post made some sense.
"And now the younger boys will strip with Mr. Adelaide in Take Back Your Jockstrap!"
Well I dont really think we could do CHICAGO Jordan! It cant be too risky either like

Did the same young boy perform " as long as he needs me?"
Chicago is risky but making little boys cross dress for Les Mis isn't?
Are these trolls the same person?
The Producers has 1 female and a bunch of little old grannies.
Look at THE ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT, THE SMELL OF THE CROWD.
It has two huge male leads, but only one sings, the other talk-sings.
It does require one girl. It's a small part with one duet, but I'd suggest you hire one.
It requires one black male. Again a small part, but he sings a great song.
The rest of the cast is a chorus of "urchins" that can be any size or sex you want.

I know it's not a famous show any more (though it was well known in the 1960s despite only running 6 months on Broadway).
HOWEVER, it has a score full of standards that you can publicize:
"On a Wonderful Day Like Today"
"Nothing Can Stop Me Now"
"Feeling Good" (yes, the one that's sung everywhere now)
"Who Can I Turn To (When Nobody Needs Me)?"
"The Joker"
It's a great show for programs that don't have a lot of viable principals, even though the two leads are very demanding, acting wise; they are on stage almost constantly for 2.5 hours.
The clueless are funnier than the trolls.
^^^ Is that a reference to me, blaxx? It hardly seems fair.
I admit I tend to take posters at face value. If they are pretenders or asking prank questions, well, then the joke's on me.
But so what? My ego isn't that fragile. (But apparently it is fragile enough to be bothered when you seem to call me "clueless". LOL.)

Joke IS on you, love. Just read the original post again.
Oh I so want to see a show where twelve year old boys play the strippers in gypsy. I would have one of the older kids to Rose. What a turn at Rose's Turn when the actors voice cracks!
Provided all the boys are 18 you could add an ensemble to Naked Boys Singing. There's no girls in that.

You have to do a show that is "popular" and your biggest hit was Chess?

There's always Glory Days.
That's too mean to suggest, even for this fake all male school.
