New 2-Disc ON THE 20TH CENTURY Recording Artwork & Tracklisting!

I'm awaiting both On the 20th and the new Fun Home recording! I'm surprised their shipping was so fast to you, HeyMrMusic...do they normally do one-day shipping for their preorders? This is my first time using PS Classics' website to order.

Received mine Today (super fast shipping, I'm in Seattle). The booklet is gorgeous with many pictures. Listened to a few tracks and sounds amazing!

I got 20th Century yesterday and Fun Home today. Typical of PS Classics, the packaging is phenomenal for both. Huge booklets with tons of photos, lyrics and other assorted stuff. PS Classics and Ghostlight are the Columbia and RCA Victor of years past.

^ Right? I thought my digital copy was skipping a track. Such a strange thing to cut. One of my favorite parts of the show, too.

I'd rather they had cut some of the dialog as opposed to a number. Doesn't make sense in the least.

It's not as if they were really pressed for space though? The act one finale is all of maybe a minute long.

Reminds me of how mad I was when they didn't record the entr'acte on the Encores GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES recording. There was almost six minutes left on the CD and they couldn't put in that short part?

Same here. It seemed so bizarre.

Rather like this desicion to cut the act I finale.

All in all I really like this recording. I still wish there was a larger orchestra.

I find Gallagher to be underwhelming on record, but Cheno sounds Divine. The only thing I don't like is how throaty she gets at the end of Babette. Kind of ruins my favorite song.

Mine FINALLY came today (I was so jealous of all you guys getting it last week). The whole thing is only one hour 36 minutes, so they definitely weren't pressed for time (without the dialogue tracks, it would have ran 81 minutes, so they almost could have fit it on one disc). And on the original recording, the act 1 finale is 38 seconds long. A very strange omission.

I've definitely enjoyed the recording, although I agree I wish they had added some supplemental musicians for to the orchestra. Some odd tempos now and then (particularly in Life is Like a Train). I love Indian Maiden's Lament, although it was abridged from the original. I thought the change from "The Legacy" to "Because of Her" wasn't worth it.

Still, I'm so excited to see the show on the 28th. Kristin is phenomenal on the recording.

The act one finale omission is indeed strange. All that dialogue and they couldn't make room for more of the actual score? A bit of the ambiance is lost on cast albums that leave out their act one finales or (worse) act two finales. Such an effort was made here to give the listener a taste of the show as a whole with dialogue and music chosen to accurately present the story and music on disc but the theatrical structure was somewhat overlooked by that omission.

I wonder if it has something to do with all those Equity regulations? How they also allowed to record a certain number of minutes of music per day? My source on this is one of the ATW podcasts from like 2008, so it might have changed since. But at least then those rules were pretty riduculous...
