It's NY....of course they are going to have all races represented...so did the original. Are they too pretty? That's the way of all movies and tv these days.
I was actually suprised by the trailers....I expected more 'cheese' then was there. I'm not sure whether I go out of my way to see it....but it's got a chance.
And really: I don't know how much they are going after us "theater types". People know/recognize most of the adults in the movie....but I doubt the adults are the selling points.
Is this just a remake of the movie, or is this a movie version of the musical?
I dont even think pandering to us theatre fans by throwing in Bebe and Debbie and Megan will get me in the door. Blah.
Um, Bebe and Kelsey = Frasier, Megan = Will & Grace. Debbie is in it because she was in the original movie. They are better known for their TV and movie work than for their theatre work. They certainly aren't trying to get the musical theatre types in to see the film by "throwing those people in."
The movie...thank goodness...I thought the stage version was horrid.
This looks like a piece of modernized fake-glamorous crap. The original movie was just so unique and had so much talent in it. I really hope the remake will live up to the standards, but I don't have much faith. And what's happening to the character of Coco? Because Irene Cara's performance in the original was just so iconic.
my brother watched the trailer with me and said it looked like "2 hours of glee on crack"
While I'm sure this will not be any good, I have to admit I enjoyed the trailer. I purposefully haven't been following along, as the remake sounded like an awful idea. But I have to admit seeing Kelsey Grammar in anything is nice, not to mention the gasps I emitted when I saw Megan Mullally and Bebe Neuwirth in this. I had no idea!
Unfortunately from a technical standpoint, the trailer fell short on a few aspects in editing and build, and as a result probably won't have the same draw that most movie musicals aimed at the younger auds had (Hairspray, High School Musical 3, and even Dreamgirls).
And here I was thinking this would be the 'next big thing'. It will not.
Am still not sure how I feel about the revamped "Fame" song. And yes, it does look like very Step-Up. I hope this movie is good.

Thanks for both trailers. I think it looks good in my opinion and will appeal to it's target audience. It's not something I'm dying to see, but I'll probably give it a chance.
Huh, well I'll reserve judgment until the reviews are out. I remember being surprised at how gritty the film was. That scene with Coco and the photographer was just heartbreaking. I hope the new Fame isn't really all Disney-fied.
"This looks like junk. They have taken the original and "Center-Staged" it."
Pretty much. Not to mention, it will likely be worse than Center Stage. In metaphorical terms, Center Stage is the best goddamn dancer at the American Ballet Academy. Who the hell is the Fame remake? NOBODY.
I really love the original (thanks mostly...no, entirely, to Irene Cara), so I'm a little bitter about this. I'm sure I'll see it, but it doesn't even look campy in a fun way. Ugh.
I had a few tingles, I loved the original film back in the days of VHS and never missed the TV series, it was huge here in the UK...
No surprise here. But this is from Musto:
The imminent remake of the original high school musical, Fame, has been watered down to just "feh," according to what screenwriter Allison Burnett said on an Outfest panel recently. As a co-panelist tells me, "Allison was very open about how much his Fame script was altered. He said he was happy when he saw anything that resembled what he wrote. He said that, for the most part, all that stuck were the characters' names. He'd written a pretty edgy script, and it was whittled away to a safe movie."
Well, at least there's a gay character named Kevin, and he's not to be confused with the troubled Montgomery from the original movie. "Kevin is not tortured at all," a source told Ontopmag.com. "The fact that he is gay is not discussed in the film." Hmm. Is that a good or a bad thing? And an even more urgent question: Did they really slow down the tempo of the title song? Sheesh!
