Looks like a very interesting season! I know many people lament that New Group often announces shows with high potential, only to deliver disappointing results. That may be, but I'm holding out hope! Looks like some really intriguing projects this coming season.
Worth noting that Cyrano will be at the Daryl Roth, as opposed to the usual Signature rental.

I didn't expect Cyrano to be a musical. Confused but intrigued.

Dinklage is easily the biggest talking point here. Cyrano lends itself well to casting diverse leads, and he certainly has the charisma and talent to impress as Cyrano...
I wonder how the music works - is Dinklage singing (After all, he can sing pretty well) or is the music being performed by The National?

Goodspeed did a version of this CYRANO musical last year. Interesting that it's being done downtown at the Daryl Roth Theatre.
Duncan Sheik can realy churn 'em out! (I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, given his recent track record...)

I haven't really been following his career very closely, but a friend of mine told me he's had a lot of irons in the fire for a while, but that they've just had such long gestation periods that a lot of them are only coming to fruition now. Not sure how accurate that is, but that's what I've heard.

Makes sense, JBroadway. Timing is everything in theatre. Like the conversation yesterday about how Trip Cullman has 6 shows in 12 months: Choir Boy, Mother, Pain of My Belligerence, Moscow Moscow Moscow, The Rose Tattoo, Magic Mike...!

Oh, gosh. The New Group always manages these seasons that sound AMAZING, and then over and over, I'm let down. But I WILL say that even when they're bad, they're rarely boring. I'm interested, BritCrit, in where Dinklage's singing can be heard. Apologies if the answer is common knowledge!

Unfortunately, Goodspeed had to cancel several performances, including mine, because Blake Jenner had to depart the production, and they couldn't find a replacement. I'm still annoyed about that, but, in any event, a friend who saw the show said that Peter Dinklage is not a singer, to put it nicely.

When Dinklage does animated films (e.g Ice Age 4, Angry Birds Movie) he gets to showcase his singing ability, but those are played entirely for comedy - It will be interesting to see him do this seriously...

I wonder if the downtown location implies it might be a bigger, environmental staging? I feel like the Signature space doesn't lend itself to musicals very well.

I saw this last summer at Goodspeed. I loved the music, and I didn't think Dinklage was a bad singer at all; his performance was wonderful (of course his acting was strong). The book needs work, so I'm curious to see what they change, but I'm very excited to see it again.
I wonder if any other cast members from Goodspeed will continue with the show (for example, Haley Bennett as Roxanne).

Same here. I called and begged them to let me do standing room, but nope. I was so annoyed.

Cyrano was a ok at Goodspeed. Could have some promise if it was developed further.
Curious about the Mazursky adaptation. Certainly a comedy of its time. Watched it years ago in college and it hadn't aged well. As with any new musical - it's worth a shot!

This looks interesting, as a fan of the Cyrano source material. May have to check it out in the fall--is New Group subscriber-only or are tickets easy enough to get, if anyone knows?

Instead of Bob and Carol and Ted and Alive, why not just revive "I Love My Wife"? (which I saw in SF starring Tom and Dick Smothers).

Anybody who saw Cyrano in Chicago, how was the score? Very intrigued with The National writing the score! I'm not necessarily the biggest National fan, but at the very least their songwriting is brilliant and some of the highest caliber compositions in indie rock.

Is “The Seagull/Woodstock, NY” not happening anymore? The only thing they have listed on their website is their current show and their upcoming gala...
I thought they always had upcoming shows listed as well.

I noticed that too a few weeks ago. I gave them a call and they told me the production is still happening, but they haven't set dates yet. The phone rep told me he wasn't sure why it's not listed on the website.
