any word on whether or not some of the great new shows in London will be getting cast recordings available to us in the US?
Namely - The Sound of Music, Cabaret, Porgy and Bess, and Dirty Dancing?

I bought the new Sound of Music from the really useful website. the cast is pretty good, but I was expecting the orchestrations to sound more like the updated West End revivals of Oliver!, My Fair Lady, and South Pacific and was pretty much let down on that front. The case is neat though. It comes in this odd "rounded" jewel case with those little plastic half circle "holders" (if you will) on the inside of the CD along the spine of the case instead of at the top and bottom so you don't have to drag the booklet across the plastic to get it out. it's pretty neat. I've never seen one before.
And do we even know if there will be a new Cabaret CD or is that just speculation?

The official Cabaret website has a place to sign up for info about the cast recording CD, so I guess it's likely they are going to record one.

Posted: 12/18/06 at 6:52amThere is a DIRTY DANCING cast recording of the original Australian cast. I believe there is also a German cast album.

There is a London cast recording of Dirty Dancing. Cabaret has been recorded and was meant to come out before Christmas, but I assume it has been pushed back into the new year. No word yet on Porgy. Sound Of Music has been out for a week.
CATSNYrevival - the original orchestrations have been used, with no updates, though "Something Good" has been re-arranged from the film. I love the original orchestrations - far better than the awfulness that is the 1998 Broadway revival...

is the SoM recording expensive? I'd LOVE to hear it, I hear Lesley Garrett is sensational.
Is it possible to get all/some of these on amazon.co.uk?

Posted: 12/19/06 at 10:34amOoooh, I'll have to get the Cabaret recording. All those f'ed up pics and the way I've heard their ending described makes me very interested in how the actors and orchestra take on the score.

Posted: 12/19/06 at 11:06amIf I'm not mistaken, in the new london revival the cast gets naked and they have a mock-orgy onstage which morphs into everyone huddling together, shivering as you hear the sound of gas leaking into a chamber...
