They are casting a new Mimi for the Broadway Company of Rent, just heard from a friend who is sending her stuff in....Bye Karmine Alers....

I dont know why, shes the best, but i guess we all gotta go sometime right

Well, she's been with the show for a while, so if she is leaving even though I'm sad, it might be time for somebody new.... as long as it's not the second coming of Scary Spice.

They hold auditions for the leads every year (at least), since they are required to do so. It doesn't necessarily mean that Karmine will be leaving. It would be nice to see another fresh face in the Broadway cast, they're doing so well with that lately! But I guess we'll see in July. I'm still petitioning that Dan Rosenbaum come in to take over for Cary when that time comes too, and then we'll have a nice fresh Roger AND Mimi.

However, Karmine is working on/or is done with her new album..maybe she wants to leave to pursue that...

I just saw her and thought that she was amazing. I thought she was the best in the cast. I didn't see Cary or Merle or Angel (don't remember name) though. It would be sad if she left.

Broadwaykid, if you're referring to an open call audition, they happen on a regular schedule, as someone else mentioned. That does not mean that they are necessarily looking for a new Mimi. I'm assuming that's what you meant because you referred to a friend who was "sending her stuff in", whatever that means. Oy. Come on, people, stop starting silly rumors.

I saw Tallia in the tour and thought she was amazing. She was the best Mimi I have seen yet. Of course I have only seen in twice and both were on tour. I also saw Dan and he was off the night I was there. I heard from friends who saw it another time that he was a lot better.

Not necessarily, not everyone loves everything. Case in point, I don't like Cary Shields all that much, yet I don't think he's horrible nor do I don't think every time I've seen him has been an off night!

You're not alone! I've seen Karmine on a number of occasions and have never really taken to her portrayal. Whilst wonderfully talented, I don't care for her Mimi. Now Saycon ... that girl was hot and rocked the house IMO.

Tallia was amazing, and her swing sucked...haha i saw her, granted it was her first time ever with that cast, she did a good job. But she just wasn't a Mimi. She didn't have the hair, the clothes, the look. IT was all pretty bad except the singing.

Those saying Tallia was amazing, can I ask who you can compare her to? I saw her three times and every time, I wished I was seeing Dan with a GOOD Mimi, and was trying to figure out if the building would survive such a thing.

Karmine and Cary are both signed through July. So there are a couple of months before anything is going to occur. And they have both been approached for a possible resign so we shall see.

I like Tallias voice a lot more than the OBC. You could hear the age in Daphne's voice. Tallia was young and amazing.
