I'm surprised they're considering Blackbird a revival. I guess it falls under the "classics" rule?

I'm also surprised by Jessica Hecht's placement. Hasn't Golde typically been considered a lead?

Blackbird falls under the classics rule. I would've been surprised if it WASN'T a revival.

Does this mean all the actors in The Humans are featured? Or is someone above the title?

Doesn't even matter if Hamilton loses Best Musicsl, as long Cynthia Erivo wins Best Leading Actress all is good in the world.

Blackbird is a weird example since the original encarnation was so long ago, and it has since been done by other companies and worked its way into the theatrical cannon, so in that sense, yes it is a "classic" even though this production is the same as the original.

This production is not "the same." Both Joe Mantello and Jeff Daniels said they didn't remember what they did in 2007. So how could it possibly be the same?

Everyone in The Humans is below the title.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Having done a bit more research, I see that you're right. What I meant by "the same" was that it was a replica production of the original, but with a gap of 9 years in between the Broadway "transfer." I was under the mistaken impression that the whole production team was the same, not just the director and set designer.

Also, I didn't know that Daniels and Mantello had said that. That's interesting to know!

Does anyone know why they didn't include Bright Star or The Crucible in this round? Is it because they are giving the voters more time to see it?

Also, what about Danielle Brooks? She's above the title, but they don't mention her. Doesn't that imply that she is in leading? If so, I find that very surprising. The role definitely seems supporting to me.

No, Golde is normally more of a featured role.

Maybe they could only discuss a certain number of shows at a time.

It would have nothing to do with voters as there is nothing to vote ON yet.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

"

No it doesn't. Hudson is above the title. And being considered for supporting. Above the title does not mean automatic "leading actress".

Ah, I stand corrected yet again. However, I wonder why they have her above the title on the show's website:

I know the website is not the be-all-end-all designation of who is above the title and who isn't, but I would have thought they would be the same.

I thought the DEFAULT was that if an actor was above the title, they are leading. So unless the Tonys make the decision to place them in featured, an actor above the title is automatically in the leading category (though of course, as I already mentioned, I was wrong about Brooks being above the title in the first place)

Sorry, I meant the Tony committee, not the voters. Whoever is in charge of making the eligibility decisions.

I'm making too many factual errors today. I'm just gonna step down from this conversation for now, lol.

Well ruling Blackbird a revival basically just solidified the four Best Play nominees as Eclipsed, King Charles III, The Father, and The Humans. There really isn't competition from anything else.

The featured actor/actress in a play categories just got a lot more interesting though.

Because they didn't mention it, does that mean that everyone in Disaster! will be considered for supporting? I'm not expecting a lot of nods obviously, but I really want Jennifer Simard to get nominated.
