To do an R-rated musical with 70 percent singing...
How many of us feel reassured by this quote?
Meh. I have no vested interest in Sweeney, and I don't really care what gets cut and what doesn't, but I wouldn't accept that there's 70% singing just because Depp says there is. Chris Columbus told some flat out lies about the Rent movie while it was being filmed, and there was a lot of sketchy information that came out of the Dreamgirls camp as well.
I'm not saying don't get your hopes up. I'm just saying don't believe anything until you see it.

I agree that the proof will be in the pudding (or pie.) But, just to clarify, the quote strikes me as being Burton's, not Depp's.
Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.

Not to mention the fact that 70% is certainly just an arbitrary number.
ETA: And you're right. It was Burton, not Depp.

well, she says a "ghostly" lovett.
I took this to suggest lovett becomes a ghost, another sweeney victim that would then sing a sweeney reprise, as rumors about the screenplay have said the ghosts do. for lovett to be singing it must be the final sweeney reprise.
I know some of the ghost-singing sweeney reprises were cut due to the depp emergency that re-arranged the shooting schedule, but I would imagine some are still in the picture - like, perhaps, the beginning and end.

I think they're just using ghostly as an ajective to describe what she looks like in the movie compared to what she looks like in real life.

Me too.
Besty, I love the idea of a Mrs.Lovett with Baby Jane Hudson make-up!
Carter was definitely referring to "The Worst Pies in London" (or maybe even "God, That's Good!") when she talked about singing and baking pies. I meant more about the fact she mentioned all the voice training she had to go through and the "70% singing." It was just a thought, like I said, I may have been reading too much into it.

I am really hoping for BY THE SEA to make the cut. Even if it's truncated a bit - I'd be thrilled it's even there.
We serve their food,
We carve their meat,
We tend to their house,
We polish their
Silverware.

She's clearly talking about Worst Pies in London.

I'm just glad this movie is rated R
It makes me reassured that the movie will be as bloody and gory as it should be :)

Is there no new pic in EW?

B12B - I didn't mean that the two went together, that song and pie making. I just liked the song and thought it was funny she had to learn how to make a pie. Sorry I confused you.
One thing I appreciate about Helena is how she really takes her roles seriously. I fear she probably though won't look too wretched, if she felt it is so similar to what she already does.
Unless, "bag lady" is the new trend? I've seen it before. (sigh)

"I'm still worried about Helena's singing, though."
Why are you worried about HER singing? I don't think she will be the problem since Lovett can be pulled of with a character voice and everything is pre-recorded and not live. Helena is an excellent actress and has an off beat nature about her, she will be a stand out Lovett.
On the "looks like Sleepy Hallow, looks like Edward Scissorhands" topic, who cares! I love that his body of work can stand alone but can also stand as a collection. It is like Pedro Almodóvar, Wong Kar Wai, Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, and Wes Anderson. All of them have pictures that have a very specific look.
