New WICKED Commercial

Saw a new TV commercial for WICKED this evening during SNL. Looked it up on YouTube and was surprised to find that it was uploaded a month ago. I guess it makes sense as that was around their anniversary date. Still, I find it an impressive ad for TV. I love the musical arrangement.

Speaking of TV ads, there are a few more that I noticed have changed since they opened.

KING KONG's ad sends mixed messages to me. It shows the cool puppet, but does nothing else to try to persuade me to buy a ticket.

THE PROM seems to have changed all messaging that they are the funnest show on Broadway. They are only doing this with pull quotes and still images, however. I get that they might be trying to save money by not broadcasting broll, but it might help to show a flashy dance number.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I'm always interested in this because I live so far from the NYC area that I pretty much never get Broadway commercials except, on occasion, for the national tours that are coming to my area.

That's because there is no other reason to buy a ticket.

Personally, I hate Wicked's new commercials. They do nothing to highlight the show. You just get random images.

Eh - definitely not one of Wicked's better ads. I personally thought the King Kong commercial was fantastic (and I HATED the show)...

I think it’s a weird choice to end the phrase on “everyone to deserve a chance to fly” they way they’ve arranged it. It doesn’t sound resolved. I see this commercial several times a day on the local networks and it bothers me every time.

I've been hearing this arrangement on a radio ad that's been going on for at least a month now. Every time I hear it I cringe. I had no idea there was a new TV spot too. Still makes me cringe.

That WICKED TV commercial is horrendous. The actors are wearing their full-on stage make-up plus some idiot chose to kick up the saturation so they look like Kabuki actors. The producers obviously used a film production not experienced enough to realize the make-up needed to be toned down for camera. The visible contouring lines on the actress playing Madame Morrible is simply horrific.

God lord, this is awful! OP, you said you saw this air during SNL right? Are we sure it wasn't one of their gag commercials? It honestly looks like a parody of a bad commercial.

I don't think it was that bad, except for AJC, I'm guessing (?), looked like she was recreating Kristin Chenoweth's show on Vicodin

I seriously thought you guys were ragging on the new (Jackie & AJC) footage that was released a while back (link) ...

I really needed that laugh today. What the HELL is this new commercial?! They should have just cut down the video I linked and put that out. LOL

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

I must watch a lot more TV than rest of you, since that commercial has been running constantly on the NY network affiliates for the past 6 weeks.

Yup. Every show on Broadway seems to have a commercial. THE CHER SHOW now says “now on Broadway.” The best produced one is THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which doesn’t rely on B-Roll footage like most of the others do.

Not that it did anything for ticket sales, but I think the ubiquitous Head Over Heels commercial is also well-produced.
