New song in Rent? — Page 2

How many times can we say this?

A song CANNOT be eligible for the Oscar unless it was written SPECIFICALLY for the film. NOT written for the play but cut before opening, NOT written for another show.

In other words, the only way a song from the movie of RENT can be Oscar eligible is if it is a NEW song written by someone other than Jonathan Larson.

where can you hear these Rent songs that didn't make it that everyone seems to be familiar with??

Yes, but you can get Tick Tick Boom in stores. (Speaking of which, I'm pushing for Boho Days in the credits... it's not ACTUALLY in Tick Tick Boom...)

I've never been able to get my hands on the NYTW version of RENT... *le sigh*

I'd love for it to be "Love Heals". Such an amazing song, and would be great to actually tie into Rent.

The melody must be new - written FOR the movie. The lyrics must be new - written FOR the movie.

i think the best thing in the world that could happen is get some REALLY talented songwriter to go back to jonathan's music notes or rough drafts and try to pick up a melody that goes with all the songs already in rent. not literally copy it, but get inspired by what's already there

and then maybe looking back at his brainstorming and do the same thing for lyrics.

it's got to be really talented so that he uses larson's voice more than his own as much as possible.

it'd be the closest thing to having larson write it.
