Newsies to open in Italy!!!

Hopefully this means that Newsies could open on the Westend soon, or one day make a return to Broadway!!!

It closed less than a year ago and it has a national tour. If you wanna see the show so bad, go to a city near you! Only Gypsy's allowed unlimited revivals.

At first thought I said… heck no. I love the show and was sad to see it close on Broadway, but a revival of any kind seems too soon and very unlikely. Then I thought… I wonder if Disney would ever consider bringing this as a "holiday engagement" show of some sort in the not-so-near future, but down the line. We know there are audiences for it, and I'm sure it'd make a killing with a limited run back in NY after some time has gone by. But as I said, just a thought.

The more interesting aspect is that its a Disney sanctioned production, and yet Disney seems to have completely given up on a West End transfer. 

If the tour continues to do as well as it currently is over the next year, I could see Disney trying to bring the show in for a Summer or Holiday run to try and bring some buzz for the road, as the tour will be elligible to be nominated for the 2017/2018 Tony's for Best Revival. Will it win, no, but But I also only see this happening if Hunchback doesn't happen and Frozen is delays to 2018-2019.

 I am praying for a Newsies revival! I was in Israel when it was on Broadway and was planning on seeing it in New York when I returned to the states but it closed two weeks before I returned. But I have seen the tour three times! And look forward to seeing it again!

Maybe they are testing the waters in Europe with the shows in Italy to see if there is a demand before opening it on the Westend? Has anyone said that Newsies would or would not open on the Westend? Given how inexpensive Newsies is compared to the other Disney musicals, I could see it coming back for a holiday or summer run on broadway. Also given how the Frozen mania has thawed to the point of where it is a joke now. Maybe they will delay the musical or scrape it all together. I would rather see Newsies.

If I recall correctly, the creative team and Eduardo Castro have expressed interest the last two or so years about bringing Newsies to West End. I think the early plan was to open last summer, but obviously nothing came of that.

The Italian production has nothing to do with a possible London transfer of Newsies and I don't think they're "tasting the water" with european audience. That's because Italy is completely out of the musical business, since italian audience has not the slightest interest in musical theatre and Italian reaction to a show can't be considered a reliable idea of how the show is going to be received somewhere else. The only musicals that sell tickets in Italy are family shows like Mamma Mia, sister act, beauty and the beast and now newsies. If they really want to taste the water the should have opened it in German or directly in UK

Newsies was one of the shows Disney got right

Is it the greatest thing since sliced bread. No but it was an entertaining piece of theater helped immensely by its athletic choreography reminiscent of Michael Kidd.It is too soon for any show to be revived after they just barely closed. Maybe in 10 years but talk of it now is ludicrous

The number of musicals that never have nor will be revived is staggering. Look there to revive something instead of something that closed 3 days ago.

Disney Theatricals recently closed a deal with T4F to produce their shows in Brazil. I hope Newsies is their next production after The Lion King closes (hopeful soon).

The selection of recent shows that opened over here this year are so "meh"... i mean, all show that I don't care about (Sister Act, Nice Work if You Can Get It, Chaplin...). Newsies would be a fun choice at least.

As an Italian with almost a hundred Broadway and touring shows under her belt, to this I reply, ouch. :P

But I do agree that whatever success this might have in Italy has nothing to do with its West End fate.

 Last I heard, not until after Aladdin.
