Posted: 2/18/08 at 12:15amI don't think Hairspray is in danger of closing, at least for a while. I'm sure the movie is still helping it at the box office.

Posted: 2/18/08 at 12:16amI'd actually like to see a Muppet Chicago. Fozzie as Billy Flynn, Gonzo as Amos, Miss Piggie as Velma and Gonzo's Chicken Girlfriend as Roxie. That'd be pretty fun. Barry and Fran, what do you think?

Posted: 2/18/08 at 12:18amRent, I'll give you. But Hairspray has had a pretty good record with its "stunt" casts- Darlene Love, Diana DeGarmo, Bruce Vilanch, Michael McKean, and even George Wendt have worked out quite well. The only true "disasters" were Lance Bass and Ashley Parker Angel.

I remember hearing about Paige Davis from Trading Spaces joining the cast of Chicago, and thinking to myself, Whaaaaaaaaaat? I wasn't into B'WAY back then, but if I was, I probably would've gone to see what she could do.
I saw a recent billboard ad for CHICAGO on 46th St. On the upper left corner, it says, 'Now starring Sexy TV Icon John Schneider.' I thought that was pretty funny.

wasn't one of the Duff girls in Hairspray for awhile?
Haylie Duff played Amber. She was alright. The only problem was at the end when she looked worried. I think it was about the heavy finale wig. It was her first weekend performing when I saw it.

Posted: 2/18/08 at 1:18amOk, I didn't see him in the show but I did see his performance on Good Morning America (or one of the morning shows) but I didn't like Brian McKnight's Flynn. He sounded like he was a wannabe American Idol contestant with their incessant riffing in songs. He wounded like he wanted to turn "All I Care About..." into some R&B song or something.

I like the way you think but I think some changes are in order:
I'd move Fozzie to the role of Amos. He's just not slick enough for Billy. Gonzo, Kermit, Pepe or Rizzo would be better off in the role of Billy. Camilla as Roxie? Is she going to cluck the whole score? I'd cast Janice in that role in a heartbeat. Scooter would make a good Mary Sunshine. We could cast an actual person in the role of Mama Morton. That way it would feel more like an episode of the Muppet Show.
btw...I'd LOOOOVE to see Carrie Fisher on Broadway. I hear her one woman show is really great and is knocking them dead in California. From what I've heard about it I'd see it in NYC if they brought it over.

Personally, I think that A Chorus Line still has some life left in it. It has recouped its losses and it doesn't take a lot of money to run.
Chicago is a goo show for the forigen tourist who wants to hear catchy music and good dancing while stil being able to say that they saw a Broadway show whilst in NYC. Their knowlege of the english language will not be a problem if they see this show. Considering the fact that it is mostly catchy music and good dancing.
I do think that Hairspray might not make it out for that much longer. The movie hasn't helped out as much as people think. As for Mamma Mia, I saw it the other night and it is doing fine. it looked to be close to selling out. Even after almost seven years on Broadway it is holding up to be just fine.

She's a trained dancer, and was an actress long before Trading Spaces came around. Her husband is Patrick "Mr. Grinch" Page.

I admit I am a tiny bit worried that ALW would put on some b.s. press release saying how phantom had to close because its time to look to the future and the future is....Phantom of Manhattan!
But then again why would he close a show that still consistently brings in loads of money week after week and is still in the top 10 twenty years later!
When stuff like comes up I also think back to the Producers. When that opened back in spring 2001, right across from Phantom, it had all that bright white signage, and that big sign that said "a super-duper cast-iron hit!" And you couldnt get tickets for years, and it was the most popular thing ever, and then across the street were the black signs of the 80's dinosaur that is Phantom.
Fast forward a few years.....that 80's dinosaur that everyone loves to hate is still doing well, and its now BEATING that bright young whippersnapper across the street. Awww and then wouldn't you know it? Producers had to close because nobody wanted to see it anymore. And Phantom? Yeah, still going strong. Never underestimate the Phantom. : )

Well, "Passing Strange" only grossed $55,129 this week, but that's new, and so is "Xanadu" ($194,215), so I would say "Avenue Q". They have a tour, various international productions, and the rights are on their way to being released, as well as a school edition in development. If a show would have to close soon, I would say it would be "Avenue Q", but "Chicago" and "Chorus Line" haven't exactly been doing well this or last week.
