Several shows with long/healthy runs have recently closed or will relatively soon (Spelling Bee, The Color Purple, Rent). What do you think will be the next one to take its final bow?
Just curious what people think, and what people have "heard."
One can only hope it will be Phantom Of The Opera
I don't want to jinx it, but I have a feeling A Chorus Line is down for the count.
A Chorus Line or Chicago (As much as I hate to say it). Chicago's numbers haven't been impressive and unless they drastically go up who knows how much longer.

If Phantom closes I dont know what I would do. Thank goodness it is still going strong.
lakezurich........next time u come out here you are coming with me to see it!!
ooo... Chicago too!
I sort of think Chicago. Primarily because its numbers aren't where they used to be and I don't think it's really a part of the zeitgeist anymore. I don't know, people just seem to make fun of it a lot now, and I think it's going to be over soon.

Yeah I'd hate to say it but Chicago. For some reason, I never liked it......but when I saw it in December---wow it just knocked me out.
The Weisslers are not going to let Chicago go. This happens every year to the show during the Winter months.
They've been stunt casting for the past two years. The horse is dead, people. Put down the whip.
Phantom isn't going anywhere either. It's still a money-maker.
george95, I will be in town on April 5th, my friend and I are going to see the evening performance of Spring Awakening We are going to see a matinee of another show, but we don't know which one yet. And I REFUSE to see Phantom. I try to distance myself as far as possible from that show. I was doing the same with the movie, but we watched it with our clients one day and I HATED it.
I am having such a hard time deciding what to see for the matinee performance. Shows I want to see:
Xanadu
In The Heights
Young Frankenstein (mostly for the cast, especially Mullally)

ah thank you adam you made me feel better. : )
CHICAGO made about 25 million last year during 2007. RENT made about 18 million.
CHICAGO's grosses/attendance weren't worrisome like RENT'S.

Yeah the bad numbers for Chicago in February dont mean much. RENT was doing badly through the whole summer, even during Christmas, even by Adam and Anthony's 3rd week.
I think Chicago is still popular for the tourists who want to see an "adult" show with lots of bare chests and girls in undewear, etc.
Also Chicago's average attendance for 2007 was 81% while Rent's was 67% approximately. Rent suffered.

Then all they need to do is cross the street.
Chicago has a few more years left. Whenever it closes, I'm getting tickets as soon as the notice goes up and I'm going to that last show, hell or high water!
One can only hope it'll be The Phantom, but I doubt it. Speaking of Phantom (and slight thread jack, sorry
)- Good to hear Hal is feeling better! May you outlive Abbott Hal!
So, to answer your question...
I don't know.
Sorry.
Then all they need to do is cross the street.
- I assume you mean SPRING AWAKENING? But Spring Awakening an "adult" show? YEAHHH! OK!
SA is a teen/fangirl rock/pop fest, while Chicago is a mature sexy black diamond of a show.

lakezurich how could you? Chicago loves the phantom! Its been on tour there like 6 times! But ok if you have moved on I can respect that. And I hear you on the movie---I refuse to see that movie and I once was the cause of a huge fight because I wouldn't see it. But the show is pure 80's excess! You gotta love it! : )
There's no competition. Kander and Ebb's worst song (Hot Enough for You) has more wit and intelligence than the entire score of Spring Awakening.
Nope... I REFUSE. Just for future reference the shows Eric REFUSES to see:
1. Mama Mia
2. Chicago
3. Phantom Of The Opera
4. Grease
5. Legally Blonde
6. Little Mermaid
By the way, when do you think Mamma Mia will shutter so I can remount the original Follies at the Winter Garden? Will six years be a sufficient amount of time to raise twenty million?
In other words...
How much longer should we give Mamma Mia? Six years? Seven?
