Posted: 1/6/15 at 1:46pmI don't think Sondheim was happy with the all-male COMPANY at the end of the day.

Posted: 1/6/15 at 5:20pmHopefully a full and much needed refurbishment of the theater starting with the Studio 54 leopard rug. The stud lighting also needs to go .The Proscenium needs work also.

I can't see anything moving in before the summer or fall. Studio 54 needs to be converted from the table seating arrangement to a traditional theater layout. The stage and proscenium would also need some reworking, I'd assume. If something moves in, it's something that we haven't been aware of. It would have to have sets designed for the space ready, need their little rehearsing, and be comfortable having a very short tech and preview period. There's less then a month between Cabaret's closing date and the Tony cut-off date. That leaves no room for error and it's a risk most shows cannot take.
The 2 "big name" workshops Roundabout has had recently that the public knows about are they Goodman's version of Brigadoon and the Donna Murphy led Sunset Blvd. While Donna Murphy as Norma Desmond intrigues me, Goodman's Brigadoon was truly outstanding. I'd love for more people to see that.

It's a Roundabout-owned and programmed house; they can't afford to rent it to commercial producers at this point because it leaves them with only one Broadway theater they can fill with their season, which would alienate much of their subscriber base. It's also too late in the season for them to bring in a new show and to ticket their large subscriber base.
It will remain dark until next season.

Posted: 1/6/15 at 7:36pmYes please for Brigadoon. I have some friends who were in the Goodman production and I think it is Broadway ready for sure.

Posted: 1/6/15 at 8:05pmIf Studio 54 is going to remain empty I guess they were planning to keep Cabaret open but couldn't find suitable replacements until it was too late to plan for another show - I can't imagine an empty theatre is very desirable for them.

They don't have to put the traditional seating back if they can rush something in. I recall seeing Pacific Overtures and Assassins seated at the tables after Cabaret closed in early 2004. That said, Id much rather have normal seating again
Regardless, they already informed full-season subscribers there won't be a 7th show this year & are allowing us to apply the value of the missing show to renewing our sub for next season (or acquire another ticket to another production this season, etc)

Posted: 1/6/15 at 10:44pmI think it more or less looks like Studio 54 will be empty until the summer. I doubt anything will squeeze in there in time for the Tony cut-off.
