Last vacancy of the season. Any ideas of what’s coming next?

Someone mentioned a much needed renovation is coming in another forum

No official announcement, yet. But I'm assuming we are considering the leak of "A Man of No Importance" at CITS as becoming official any minute now.

hopefully a refurbishment
it's the ugliest theatre on Broadway. It needs a good refresh.

There were rumors a while back that this is where the London Cabaret transfer would end up, which I imagine would come with a hefty refurbishment

If the West End cabaret is going in there, they need to fix the seating and the legroom in the mezzanine and balcony evels.

While I'd LOVE to be wrong, I'm starting to think Cabaret will not be transferring here. Once again I would be VERY happy to be wrong.

I just think it’s unfortunate that, due to the star power behind it, they almost certainly won’t transfer Cabaret to an off-Broadway theater or other alternative venue. I remember seeing Great Comet in the tent off-Broadway, and there was something exhilarating and magical about that space. All the money and effort put into refurbishing a Broadway theatre to house that show still couldn’t quite capture that same spark.
Why on earth would Cabaret want to come here? It's dirty and dingy, and not in a glamorous kind of a way.

Oh, I thought by “here” Alex meant Broadway in general. I think the only reason people were specifically thinking it would go to the Lyceum is that there were some rumors earlier that it might.
The theatre just doesn't have that star quality to it. It seems like duds end up going there cause they can't book anywhere else. I wouldn't expect a highly anticipated revival of a popular musical staring celebrities to go in there.

Alex did mean Broadway in general

Also this simply is not true. Renovations very much need to be made on the space. It needs new seats as they are very tight and uncomfortable, some modern appliances added, and a larger lobby. As long as those things happened I'm sure the house would be extremely desirable. I personally just dont think Cabaret will be transferring to NY at all.

Not to derail this thread since it's meant to be about the Lyceum, but I do find Redmayne's phrasing when he was asked about transferring the show to be interesting: "Never say never. But there is definitely a physical cost to doing a part like that. It’s as knackering as it is exhilarating."
The "never say never" feels awfully tepid, and his emphasis on the physical toll makes me think he's unwilling/unable to commit to a long run. I think they're going to have trouble getting people to come to another Cabaret revival without his name attached, and I don't see him signing more than a 6 month contract (and he only did 4 months in London). If they did a limited run, I'm sure it would very well, but it seems like too much of a financial investment to mount this production to do that.

I've heard some stuff that made it sound like some plans got scrapped. Once again I REALLY hope im wrong. And according to JSquared2 who is pretty reliable, I seem to be. I would love to see this revival, just not getting my hopes up!

The current revival in London is more than a show. It's an immersive experience. American theatergoers want this revival to come to NYC. I for one am one of them. While it is sounding like this won't be coming to the Lyceum, which is a shame, I still think the Lyceum NEEDS a 21st Century renovation. It's the oldest operating theatre on Broadway. It should join the other Broadway theatres that have had major restoration.

Really? I find the Lunt Fontanne to be much uglier. Those faux-painted wall panels are absolutely hideous.

Lyceum is my favorite front of house. Gorgeous facade, love the simple marquee. And the inside needs some touching for sure. But it’s a great location.

Kate Berlants solo show KATE is looking to transfer that's going to happen before any renovations

Love her. Would love to see the show. There’s no way she can fill that place. But hey, maybe the numbers make sense. Maybe she’s like Mike B and doesn’t need to sell out to make a return.
