Until an official announcement is made, I will remain "cautiously optimistic," but this seems very promising.
This certainly makes the Tonys a lot more interesting. I'm excited for the show and look forward to seeing it again!!
At least Aaron Tveit won't have to see his considerable talents wasted in his throwaway role in Wicked.
Let's just hope that's not the logo.

Aaron DOES kind of make the role of Fiyero wayyyy more awesome than it actually is hehe (aka... Wicked will go back to being totally MEH without him)
But yes, he needs to be back in NtN He's AMAZING
There is a scene in the show now where Diana tells the psychiatrist she was diagnosed bipolar, "only it turned out bipolar didn't totally cover it."
^That's good because having only seen it at Second Stage I was never quite clear on what was wrong with her. I mean, I knew what symptoms she had but I didn't know if it was bipolar disorder or schizophrenia or something more (or a combination?). I was always confused about that.
she def exhibits the highs and lows of bi-polar but the nature of her mental illness goes much further than than. As an overall picture of mental illness, I think it handles it with grace and truth. (from 2nd stage, anyway)
I'm awfully glad they got rid of the Walmart song...hated it.
it was Costco, but now im just nitpicking, and I agree. that song was out of place.

It's um. not on the Barlow Hartman site anymore.
Hoping this is just because they haven't officially announced a production yet.
Here's how we'll know if this is actually happening....
If the mods delete the thread, the show is coming to Broadway, because they like to "break" the news.
If the thread stays here awhile, no announcement is imminent.
The N2N page is still there but the icon/link on the homepage is gone.
It's totally still there. Just not . . . directly.

I didn't see the show at Arena, but I'm very excited to see the changes they've made. At 2nd Stage, it was never really clear what was wrong with Diana. I also felt that the show was very strongly anti-medication. I did like how they showed how much stress Diana's illness caused Dan. I thought they very accurately portrayed the family's frustration with each failed treatment. Is the scene where Diana relapses and Dan smashes the music box still in?
my old username was manic_magic_n2n .
for my new one tonight i just added another "2" to the end haha.
GUYS I AM SO PUMPED.
yes, i'm pretty sure the music box scene is still in, and it's fabulous.
oops...the walmart v costco thing! Thanks for the correction!
Music box scene is still in.
From my understanding the Arena version is the locked version.
And actually it WAS stated in the Second Stage production that she was bipolar ~ Dr. Fine said it "Diana Goodman, bipolar depressive with delusional episodes." But she herself says it in the Arena version.
So f-ing excited about this! It is NOT to be missed now ~ especially with the changes they made at Arena.
oops

It is!
and yeah, the changes they made made the show.. quite a bit less anti-medication. It's very cool, because it's really very much the same story, and there aren't THAT many huge changes. But the ones they DID make, make a very big difference in the mood with which the medication issue is dealt.
The biggest changes they made were replacing a couple of songs (yes, one being Feeling Electric). The new songs definitely work better, imo. I took a little while getting used to them, but now I definitely approve of them.
Ljay, as has been said, a couple times, it's still there, the Icon/link has been removed but the actual page http://www.barlowhartman.com/next_to_normal.htm is still there.
No offense,
but how would this get produced on Broadway and not
THE VISIT?
Is it the Eric Schafer(sp) connection?
Is it Arena Stage $$$?
Can anyone explain?

because it's good, has an audience and a creative team/producers that believe in it.
It's my understanding that there were backers when it went to Arena ~ they just wanted to get it solidified.

-Are you working for Next To Normal? I'm being serious.
Me? No. I'm not. I promise. I teach 2nd and 3rd grade boys with mental retardation and emotional/behavioral issues.
Ljay was talking to me, and no, I work in market research for television. I just happen to love the show and ahve seen it at Arena, 2St and NYMF.
