....And he had 2 nominations.
Could it be his reputation?
Could they have simply forgotten about him? lol
...I actually did.
aw this makes me sad
All your life and what does it get ya?
Thanks a lot and out with the garbage,
They take bows and you're battin' zero.
They leave people off every year. An unfortunate oversight.
They never mention everyone in the "dead reel."
People (Academy members) are always left out, and it upsets viewers every year.
That's a shame, but he was included in the tribute at the BAFTAs.
"People (Academy members) are always left out, and it upsets viewers every year."
Why should the response to the nominees for "best achievement by a corpse" be any different than the response to the nominees in any other category?
I was not able to watch all of the Oscars last night and I missed the Memoriam, but Laurents is included in the online Oscars Memoriam photo gallery I browsed this morning: http://oscar.go.com/photos/in-memoriam/media/arthur-laurents
Maybe the camera cut away while his picture was shown, or maybe they just did not have time to feature all 79 people in the online list and had to omit some from the telecast.
^ I don't think they showed 79 people, but I could be wrong. I remember last year how people were mad because Michael Jackson was featured, but not Farrah Fawcett. So, it does happen.
While I understand that omissions can be made, and certainly it was appropriate to end the memoriam with Elizabeth Taylor, it was just sad that Arthur was omitted.
His film writing was not always successful (see his chapter on "Summertime" in his book), and I'm not a big fan of "The Way We Were" or "The Turning Point," but he did make enough of a contribution to the screen that he should not be forgotten. Come on Academy, with the mess you presented us last night, couldn't you at least get this right???
There was no way he was ever going to be included.
Arthur hated Hollywood and Hollywood hated Arthur.
And that's showbiz.
Did Broadway dim the lights in his honor when he died? I don't recall reading any kind of announcement for such.

Because no one could verify the stake was still in his heart.
Thanks Yero.
Yero, he was definitely NOT included. Every year I watch the Dead Celebrity Tribute with rapt attention. The house could be burning down and I wouldn't budge until the very last dead person was brought to life for one final moment. It's like attending a funeral; it brings closure. (We also like to predict who the tribute will "end" with. Extra bonus points for whoever calls it first!)
Sick? Demented? Morbid? Oh well. As Meryl Streep said last night: "WHATever!"
All right. I said I did not watch the Memoriam, so I did not know whether he was included in the telecast, I was only pointing out that he is included in the online Memoriam on the Oscars web site, for whatever that's worth.
And I was simply letting everyone know that I love to "see dead people"! (On the Oscars. Well, you know what I mean. )
James Farentino wasn't mentioned either...for whatever that's worth.
Best12bars, I don't like "The Dead Reel." I prefer "Who's Through."

Laurents was disliked by a large number of people in the business but I feel reasonably sure that it wasn't an intentional slap. I mean, a lot of people in the business LOATHED Elia Kazan but he was remembered at the Oscar the year he died. Also, Laurents' home base was more in the theatre, although he did some good film work.
I picture the committee that met to decide whom to include: When Arthur's name came up, half of them said, "Hell, no!"
And the other half said, "Who?"
