“After 8 years, The New York Times Theater page is shutting down and will no longer update.
But we're not going away. You can still get our theater reviews, features and more in your email inbox by signing up for our Theater Update Newsletter.”
What do we think caused them to make what seems to be a drastic change???
I think it's a sign of the times - more and more websites want your email address, and not offer free viewing any longer.Despite all this "Our Updated Privacy Policy Notification" which every site likes to run by visitors, most of them reserve the right to sell / share your email info with a third party. As more and more visitors have adblocks on their computers, these sites can no longer have a cash revenue dependent on advertisers (if the ad doesn't load, they don't get credit). So now you need to 'register' with your email to access info - or get news feeds, etc. So this way they can have an extra cash flow revenue once again.
