"Anyone who saw the recent Theater Talk Fall Season Preview knows he can be a grinch when it comes to jukebox musicals. He didn't even like Jersey Boys which he thought was a big slimey ball of vaseline."

I couldn't agree more.

Braniff Forever said: "I found Josh Segarra to be so physically appealing, I could have cared less if he couldn't sing that good. Did you see the way he filled out his pants? And his voice was very sexy!!"

Sounds like he is perfect for the photo shoot, but not for the stage where ... you know ... the ability to sing actually matters for some.

But he's only one part of the show, and I don't believe his singing abilities (or lack of) detract from the overall enjoyment of the show.

I've read the Times review but need to read all the others. I will on this upcoming airplane ride. The Times review seemed pretty good, like the show was entertaining but not the greatest artistic achievement of all time. Curious to see what the other reviews say. You know, as long as you have a fun time and are entertained, then for me that's pretty good, a nice time. Do I like to be blown away and think "that show was the most amazing thing I've ever seen?" Sure. But that can't happen each time. Not every show can be FUN HOME or HAMILTON....but this to me was a fun experience, and I liked it more than I thought I would.

What song is Emilio known for singing?  None that I recall because he is not a singer.  This was an issue for me with the show because when his character sang in the show, I tried to recall if there were songs that he was known for that I had forgotten. Unfortunately the playbill does not contain the song list sung by each character.  I think he does "I See Your Smile".  So you have a lead in a major Broadway musical portraying someone that did not sing any songs so how do you deal with that?  Does Emilio need to sing in this show for it to be successful? I don't think so.  I would have liked it if they had written in a part to introduce Jon Secada as I would have preferred to hear an actor portraying him instead.

What does it say about the theater going public who have kept a "slimey ball of Vaseline" running for 10 years?

Disagree with your assessment by the way.

Most reviews from places like The Times, Post, Washington Post, Finacial Times etc were mixed to positive so I'm sure they will be happy with those reviews.

Much better reviews than I gave it.

They were extremely lucky with those kind reviews. The reality is that the show is a chore to sit through waiting for those few great musical moments, with the biggest impact being the last ten minutes of the show. I imagine the show's grosses will continue to be good throughout the holidays, but I can't see people going back home and actually raving about it.

My guess is it'll make most of its money on the road. It will be interesting to see when the show eventually recoups given its high capitalization.
