Hi guys...my hubby and I are off toNYC tomorrow April 2-10 for our annual Broadway binge...We have 8 musicals booked (he has 9 including Ain't Too Proud which I didn't wanna see again since I saw the first time around at Berkeley rep) plus Eva Noblezada cabaret show. The only new musical we aren't seeing is Oklahoma (I'm afraid I'll hate it, the comments are all over the place) So I am considering seeing two plays...there are so many to choose from. Suggest away please. I am leaning towards Hillary and Clinton, and All My Sons (I love Annette Bening)
THANKS!!:)

Which shows are you watching already?
Lehman Trilogy is off-broadway located at the Park Avenue armory. (on a beautiful day it's a nice walk from times square through central park to the upper east side.)

If it's not already on your list, I'd consider Network. It's just so unique in its staging and overall design, and Bryan Cranston is giving a performance for the ages.

JudyDenmark, I know you were a big fan of Network. It's a play I am considering for an upcoming trip, but the consensus has dampened my enthusiasm: Basically, it's that Cranston is fantastic, but the overall play (based on a film I've seen multiple times) is mediocre and/or gimmicky.
You seem to really like the production itself. Why is it something I shouldn't miss (Cranston aside)?

In terms of plays, its not for everyone, but I recommend looking into The Ferryman. It was a tremendous play. Thrilling at parts for sure. Its 3 1/2 hours and 3 acts but I promise it doesn't feel that long. Was a really great dramatic night of theatre. Also, of course To Kill A Mockingbird is great. If you haven't seen it and want something cheap and fun, The Play That Goes Wrong is absolutey hilarious, would be a fun date night! Enjoy your trip!

I'm more of musical fan too, but this is definitely the season to see some plays. I would recommend seeing the Ferryman, Gary, Network and To Kill a Mockingbird (in that order) and would see those over some of the musicals like King Kong, Pretty Woman, Be More Chill, Beetlejuice, or even the Cher Show.

I know what you mean...admittedly I am not super excited about some of the musicals on my list, but we like to see things so as not feel as we are missing out. I am very interested in the Ferryman, however the running time has kind of put me off to it...

I wish I could give you an intelligent answer rooted in dramaturgy, haha... but simply enough I just enjoyed the show. Cranston's exceptional performance definitely had a lot to do with it, but what I really loved was the innovation of the set design, the use of on-stage steadicams throughout the show, the breaking of the 4th wall in an unusual way, a bit of stage magic at the end that totally made my head spin... the appeal to me is that it was like nothing I'd seen before, from the minute I walked into the theatre. Disclaimer that I've only seen a couple of Ivo Van Hove productions, so maybe this is par for course with him, but the whole production really impressed me. I also had never seen the film and (other than that infamous line) knew absolutely nothing about it... so if you've seen the film a lot, you'd very possibly have a different reaction.
I will say that there were parts with the supporting characters in particular where I kind of lost what was happening, but I honestly didn't care - the success of the show wasn't about the plot for me, it was more about the overall immersive theatrical experience.

I second this; by your selections, you obviously like musicals (and unfortunately have a few real dogs on the list, e.g., Kong, Pretty Woman, Chill if you are over 25, Beetlejuice (at least according to most posters on this board). That said, The Ferryman is magnificent theatre, and you can probably get a discount ticket. I would also consider Mockingbird cancellation line, but not hold much hope; Network is good for Brian Cranston's performance; I have not seen Burn This yet, but the original production was terrific.
