Am leaving this weekend for my annual Spring theater going trip to NY. So far I have tickets for (in order):
"Spelling Bee"
"Virginia Wolf"
"DRS"
"Little Women"
"Spamalot"
"Chitty"
"Dessa Rose"
I still have 5 slots open and figure I'll check out TKS but most everything is being offered at www.Broadwaybox.com so I still have time to secure tickets through them which I'd prefer. I've tried reading all I can on what's playing but always find it helpful to hear first hand opinions from folks who've seen a show. I've seen everything that opened through 2004 except "Fiddler", "Movin' Out" and "Avenue Q" (I know...it won the Tony but I fear listening to the OCR might have ruined it for me) and saw "Piazza" in Seattle and though I love musicals...straight plays also interest me. So any suggestions would be truly appreciated. Thanks in advance...:)

Read RobbieJ's review of Streetcar, and I'm sure you will want to add that to your list. I would also consider Doubt.

If you're interested in plays, try the two best plays this year - The Pillowman and Doubt. When they duke it out come Tony time you'll be able to say you saw them both.
There's also Altar Boyz, just a block west of where you'll be seeing Spelling Bee. It's a feel-good show that is a lot of fun and has fun music, great choreography (you can say you saw Chris Gattelli's work before he blew up on Broadway!), and the Boyz aren't so bad to look at either. If you like that kind of thing.

Posted: 4/21/05 at 10:38amDEFINITELY GO TO AVENUE Q. I was afraid of the same thing with knowing the cast recording so well. It's completely amazing to see these talented actors / puppeteers perform. Don't want to spoil anything for you, but I feel that you would NOT be disappointed with choosing to see Avenue Q. Most of the originals are still performing and Barrett Foa (who took over for John T) is an AMAZING replacement. Also, even though I haven't seen it yet, you might want to go see Altar Boyz. I hear it's a fun evening.

Posted: 4/21/05 at 11:38amThanks Corinne...have been considering "Showpeople". It sounds great. Have you heard anything about it yet? I think it opens on the 25th at Tribeca and then plays at the Regal Battery later next week. Thanks If, Bong and Hanna...your input has really been helpful. Feel free to keep them coming folks!...:)))

Posted: 4/21/05 at 12:28pmYou should definately see Ave Q, even if you know the cast recording by heart, its nothing compared to seeing it in person. I would also recommend All Shook Up, it's a lot of fun. For straight plays I agree with the recomendations of Doubt and Pillowman

Posted: 4/21/05 at 2:26pmDon't know if you've ever seen Dame Edna, but she's a LOT of fun, too. And you shouldn't have any problems getting tickets because she's been running at low % for a while.

Yes. Dame Edna is faboo. She isn't exactly the nicest kid in town though.
But I adore her anyway.
Closes May 1st. I love the purple haired bitch.
Wave your gladiola POSSUM.
Dimitri-
If you see Dame Edna, ask for the first row of Mezz. Otherwise you could be labelled a friend of Kenny. Trust me. Sit upstairs.
I went twice. First time the last row of the orch second first row Mezz.
She is ruthless.
"YOU YOU YOU, THE SHOW IS ALL ABOUT YOU".....
and she makes fun of you, you, you!

I'm flying out for a long weekend (leaving Thursday eve) so I've got Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to see, say, 4 shows.
Spelling Bee
Piazza
Doubt
the toss up is btween DRS or Sweet Charity? Which choice would you make??
No desire to see Spamalot (never a Python fan) nor Chitty.
