You don't really think she is going to go into something as a replacement, do you?

How about how she put gay stories in the spotlight in the time of AIDS panic?

Or how her show totally revolutionized television?

Or how she came from poverty, raped in her adolescence, worked her way up to become one of the most powerful and wealthiest people in the world?

Let her have a Broadway role. And lovebwy can go **** himself.

I think she should do Tennessee Williams' "Sweet Bird Of Youth." Maybe Jesse Williams as Chance.

I have heard a rumor that a playwright with the initials TK is writing something for her. This may or may not be true, but it's what I was told by someone who has generally reliable info.

If the only thing Oprah had done in her professional life was The Color Purple, that would be reason enough for me to want to see her on stage.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

I really wonder what the proper pedigree or experience that constitutes "dues."

Oprah is a very talented and dedicated actor. I think Beloved and her performance in it is really missed on a lot of people.

But on a serious note, I think Oprah has paid whatever dues you are talking about. She worked her way from nothing to being one of the most powerful women in the world. She does a lot of good and in my opinion has been underrated as an actress. I think she could be really amazing in a show thats right for her. You can tell she has presence just by meeting her.

What about her replacing Andrea Martin? Not like Pippin needs the boost, but it would be fun to see her on the trapeze.

A play would suit her more, but I'd be interested to see her in a musical if she has the chops. I think she would make a cruel Witch in Into the Woods

But her singing... Updated On: 8/13/13 at 08:55 PM

Oprah should be ashamed of herself. She and Jenny McCarthy and their anti-science crusade have had some terrible consequences.

Not to mention two times now she's taken misunderstandings in stores and turned them into international incidents.

I'm very unimpressed by her.

I'm going to go ahead and guess you're talking about the Switzerland story. First of all, she didn't even make it a problem while the incident occurred in the store. Could you imagine being told something is too expensive for you without them actually knowing you? How would you react...

The shop girl has a very different story.

No matter, I don't think Oprah has paid her dues to be on Broadway. That's my basic premise here.

And your premise is flawed to the point of absurdity.

She has paid her dues to do anything she pleases. The world needs more people like Oprah.

That is exactly what I was going to mention when someone brought up her dropping pretension for a role. She is immersed in that movie.

While I'm with everyone who is pissed off with her utterly destructive anti-science/anti-medicine nonsense, you gotta respect when it's due. I mean, she won't be in the minority as a Broadway performer with completely crazy, vague, wishy-washy beliefs. Sadly, that's the kind of person theatre often attracts. And that's not the part we pay to see! She has done some great work and, to my mind, she is generally a very admirable person.

"No matter, I don't think Oprah has paid her dues to be on Broadway. That's my basic premise here."

Lovebwy, what's up with you anyway??? This ridiculous rant about some mythical requirement to "pay dues", your other silly and repetitive rants about no one can compare to so and so in this part even though they played it 40 years ago and have been dead for 20. It's obvious no one agrees with you and your argument doesn't become more compelling when repeated for a 4th or 5th time. Not sure what you hope to achieve.

Oh boy.#46

Posted: 8/13/13 at 11:15pm

Yes, Oprah has not paid her dues, but luckily it's really easy to do so. She'll just have to send a check for $1100 to Equity (or have it deducted in installments from her weekly paycheck), pay $59 twice a year, and the producers will deduct her 2.5% working dues each week. Bam! Her dues will be paid in no time.

That nom was well deserved.

Hasn't paid her dues to be on b'way. Because she hasn't struggled as an actor? Because she was never a waiter?

OF COURSE the salesperson has a different story -- she needs her job. When a potential customer wants to see merchandise, you show it to them. Did you learn nothing from Pretty Woman?

Big Mistake. Big. HUGE.
