Posted: 7/8/19 at 6:08amaccording to Once the Musicals FB story, theyre planning on launching a US tour in 2019-2020! it seems like this production has been planned for a long time now as they say their cast list will come in a few days

Prather is producing this, launching at their theater in Fort Myers, Florida. Non-equity bus and truck, but I have some confidence that his might be OK-Prather has a working relationship with Networks, who produced the last non-equity tour on the equity tour physical production package, so this is likely that tour set.
J. Michael Zygo, who I directing this, was in the original company on Broadway, and is restaging the original choreography. I'd think this will be a decent replica of the last tour. Zygo got his start in the business touring with Prather in Wedding Singer, so its full-circle back to the beginning. He's also staged a few productions of Once that have been decently reviewed.

Posted: 7/12/19 at 10:17pmOnce is actually a show you can pretty easily go non-Equity with. The characters are mostly young, and with the exception of the two leads, you need primarily musicians rather than standard musical theater actors.

Yes, this is a stop on the 2019-2020 Once Tour. The tour is booked into a handful of venues that don't traditionally present theatrical tours, including this stop in Clarksburg, WV.

Wow! This is beyond the coolest freaking thing to ever happen for me in this town! Can’t believe it’s coming here. Definitely buying the best seat I can get. Need to take the morning off to make sure I snag a ticket. YAY!!!!

See, this is why I support non-equity tours. Because they go to places that a standard Equity tour wouldn't ever dare to go. I don't think they belong in larger markets like Chicago, LA, etc. But something like this seems totally right.

Is this type of show best seen front row orchestra or front row mezzanine? Our little theater has just over 1000 seats and I’ve only been in there once before to see Paul Cardall this past December. I included a link to some pictures to give you an idea how far back the mezzanine sits...

One other quick question: for anyone that saw this on Broadway, is this tour likely to use a similar stage set and design since it’s basically all one-night stops?

Once is a show that you should definitely sit as close as possible in the orchestra for. It is a very small and quiet show.

RippedMan-Nobody has an issue with the existence of non union tours, I also support them. Only that audiences are being charged the same price for what is a cheaper product. And by cheaper I DO NOT mean "lesser than", ONLY that it's literally financially cheaper. And for the most part, most Union tours couldn't play in smaller markets anyway. And same with non union tours. Oppositely, they couldn't play larger markets most of the time.
Distinctive Baritone-The two leads 1000% need to play their instruments also, so really this entire show needs musician types. If you think about it, the two leads MUST play their intruments, I've heard tell of some productions having to have much of the cast mock play, since your not going to find a cajon or accordion player just anywhere, plus it's way easier to have the secondary characters mock play, but unless you have some really excellent staging, you really can't easily hide Guy and Girl mock playing their instruments.
All aside, I'm glad this is going back on the road, regardless. I saw it on Broadway the fall before it closed, and it just slipped right into my very soul.

Already talked a few people at work into attending. This will be their first ever live theatre performance, so I hope it doesn’t disappoint them.

dmwnc, I have to say thank you for posting as excitedly as you are in this thread. This board is so toxic and snippy and awful some (eh, maybe most) of the time, and seeing how excited and happy this tour stop is making you is truly wonderful to read. It reminds me why I started coming here 15 years ago!

I absolutely love live theatre and attending shows, every one still as if it were my first. Even people at work tell me that they love how excited I get when I talk about seeing my shows, how my eyes light up to the point they are all want to see one of them as well. My enthusiasm seems contagious. I’m seeing The Lion King National Tour at the end of the month (saw it in 2017), and as entry-level of a musical experience as it is, I’m still very excited to see it again, especially that introduction piece. I haven’t seen so many musicals and plays that I’ve become jaded, not do I ever wish to have a toxic attitude or opinion that overtakes me to the point where I have to contaminate this board with it. Sometimes things are better left unsaid.
I’m hoping that the ONCE tour sells some kind of souvenirs, a window card would be nice, but I’m not betting on it. I can always order one from Triton Gallery. And after listening to the OBCR recording all day I’ve come to love the song Falling Slowly, it’s so beautiful it hurts. I do hope the tour cast perform well. This is going to be a big event for many people here in Clarksburg, their first exposure to theatre, and I hope it leaves a lifelong impression on them to continue to attend shows and expand their horizons.

The Fort Myers production and tour recreate the staging and choreography from the original Broadway run, which racked up a whopping eight Tony Awards in 2012, including Best Musical. And the officially license revival uses the same musical instruments and set from the show’s international tour — including a working bar where audience members can order drinks.
The traveling version features the same cast and production as Broadway Palm, Prather says, just with an enhanced lighting and sound package and some added set elements, including a second level.

That tour schedule is brutal. 95% one-nighters. I'm assuming this is a low tier non-equity tour. Some weeks they're only playing three cities/performances. I'm sure the cast will be grateful once they get to Lauderhill, FL in December for a three week run at the dinner theater.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
