Did anyone see this show? Apparently it was much darker than the original Broadway show. What exactly did they change? (besides adding Into Our little world). The little scene they did on Wogan's TV show looks freaking creepy: http://youtu.be/AgGJWd9JQJw. And not in a good way.

It was creepy. In a good way.

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

...and Imelda Staunton was the Baker's Wife. LOVE HER!

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

As much as I love the OBC, I've always wished they'd filmed this one, the scanty photos I've seen of it look wonderful.

Imelda Staunton was the greatest baker's wife. I think she would make a superb witch now.

"Imelda Staunton was the greatest baker's wife."

Correction: Joanna Gleason was the greatest bakers wife.Original London Cast of Into The Woods. I haven't seen the London one, but I just know.

Coincidentally, icecreambenjamin already made a thread on this.

I'll post that link later

They're both wonderful for different reasons but Imelda had something very sweet about her.

I'm not fond of the look of this production at all.

They seem like waxen chess pieces, with that Lon Chaney horror lighting coming up from below. It's more suited to a circus than a fairy tale. And the performances all seem very mechanical.

Jack's mom reminds me of Angela Lansbury.

I think the UK production had to be totally different in tone than its Broadway counterpart, due to the British tradition of pantomime. Every year, audiences see Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and other Fairy tales on stage in comedic, all-singing and all-dancing pantos.... Into the Woods definitely isn't one of these, there has to be a definite difference.
