Posted: 5/12/04 at 3:55pmI read the thread regarding the Boy from Oz musical numbers that will be presented at the Tony Awards, but I haven't read anything about what the other 3 Best Musical nominees will be bringing. Or the revivals, for that matter. Has it been announced? And if not, any guesses?

Posted: 5/12/04 at 4:03pmThey announce what show will be performing and what number will be done at the end of May! I hope Tonya Pinkins performs 'Lots wife' from Caroline or Change and that Donna Murphy does 'Conga!'from Wonderful Town! It'll be a great telecast this year!!

Posted: 5/12/04 at 4:15pmI know this has been discussed but I can't wait to see if they get Big River out there to perform Waitin for the Light To Shine. I'd love to see it.

Posted: 5/12/04 at 4:27pmI hope Kristen does "Popular" and Idina does "The Wizard and I". Those are both great songs that I love hearing them sing.

Posted: 5/12/04 at 4:31pmI would think they'd do Defying Gravity if anything from WICKED.

Posted: 5/12/04 at 4:35pmI agree MattG. As much as I would love seeing Kristin performing "Popular", I doubt they will choose that because I would think that they would want to showcase both Kristin and Idina. It seems to be the most likely choice if anything from Wicked. I actually think it would be "One Short Day" if not "Defying Gravity".

Posted: 5/12/04 at 4:35pmMaybe they'll do Sentimental Man, because that song is a winner...ha

Oh man. I really hope they don't do "One Short Day".
I can't imagine that they would do "Popular".
It would be smartest to showcase both Idina AND Kristin.
Personally, I'd like to see "What Is This Feeling?".
That way, Idina, Kristin, and cast are involved.
I think "For Good" might have a shot as well.
What about Avenue Q?
Will they do "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist"?
It might be a little too shocking for a Tony audience.
I just can't think of anything better.
Certainly not "The Internet is for Porn"...

I haven't seen the new FIDDLER ON THE ROOF - and I am keen to see them perform a number on June 6. Would TRADITION be a good one for the TONY event?

Yes Tradition is a great number in the Revival. I wouldn't be suprised if that is the one they do!

I think they should do a medley for WICKED, and if not, "What is this Feeling?" It's the only song other than "One Short Day" that showcases IM and KC evenly along with the rest of the cast, and "One Short Day" isn't exactly the best song to begin with.
For AVENUE Q I think they should go with "It Sucks To Be Me." It features the entire cast and only has one curse word, which could easily be taken out.

There is a whole entire other thread about what the WICKED performance should be.
What about the OTHER performances? Do you think the Revivals will perform? I think they will, I hope they will.
What would FIDDLER do? Showcase Molina or the ensemble?

"What would FIDDLER do? Showcase Molina or the ensemble?"
If they do TRADITION then they'll be able to showcase both. Not to mention that song is fabulous in the current revival.

Fiddler will probably do Tradition.
Wicked, probably Defying Gravity with Kristin's part.
I wish they would let Donna do 100 ways to lose a man, but theyll probably do Conga.
Hope Avenue Q does For Now

My Choices:
Wicked- Defying Gravity(showcases both leads)
Avenue Q- For Now(Although the "George Bush....is only for now" might not appropriate for television, as it could offensive to the political figures watching
)
Assassains- "Everybody has the Right"
Fiddler of the Roof- "Tradition"

Posted: 5/16/04 at 1:36amSpoke to a friend of mine from CBS who is working on the Tony's and he told me that Defying Gravity will be done for Wicked; however, they only have 3 1/2 mins so it be an edited version similar to what was on Letterman and there is a chance that Kristin will not be in the number.

For a three- hour show, it doesn't seem right to edit the nominated shows' presentations to only 3 1/2 minutes each. For 8 shows, that is only 28 minutes total.

Posted: 5/16/04 at 8:22amI think that they should do "It sucks to be me" from AQ

It Sucks To Be Me would be awesome!
MY personal favorite is Everyone's A Little Bit Racist :)
#22re: Other Tony Performances
Posted: 5/16/04 at 10:09amI'd be happy if AQ did It Sucks to Be Me or For Now! Both showcase pretty much all of the cast. ISTBM is a very funny song, and FN is inspiring in an ironic kind of way. The George Bush line would blow them away!

Definatley- "It Sucks to be Me" is perfect for Avenue Q. I really like "For Now" though.
I think the Wicked girls should do "What is this Feeling", even though I want them to do songs seperately. But I think "Defying Gravity" shows off Idina's range a bit more.

After hearing about the time limit, I don't think "Wicked" would have time for Idina and Kristin to sing separate songs. I am disappointed by the news that they might be doing "Defying Gravity" minus Kristin. I love the song, but I was hoping to see a larger number from them, and I would love to see Kristin, as I'm not going to make it to see the show before she leaves.
