It was nice to give it a second try. Sorry you don't like it? And yeah, you are pretty much alone.

It takes all kinds. The other day I talked to someone who fell asleep during South Pacific and missed the entire second act. Then I overheard two women talking about how awful Gypsy was. Hey, we don't all like the same things.

I think anyone who types (sp?) is immediately disqualified. Couldn't look at your damn program? Or virtually every page of this site?

Yup - You're in the minority. I guess you have no sense of humor.
Like Patash said "To each his own." But FYI - I've brought about 75 people to XANADU in the last year and EVERYBODY loved it... including my brother who's a accountant & doesn't care much for Broadway shows.

so Cheyenne Jackson is rehearsing Damn Yankees whilst still starring in Xanadu? i thought he was out of the show right now and that's why i didn't get my friend to go see it when he was in NYC this weekend (he wanted to see Cheyenne).
good for Cheyenne that he's that hard of a worker!

I'm sure Luvin has a sense of humor, but Xanadu is one of those shows that either strikes you funny or it doesn't. Very little middle ground.
That said, Luvin's definitely in the minority.

Well, it's evident that most people like "Xanadu". Now, if you had said that you dislike a "show" like Passing Strange, I would agree with you. from RC in Austin, Texas
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

I saw Xanadu for the first time last Sunday, and I enjoyed it. I was apprehensive about seeing it, since, after all, it is Xanadu, but it was really good, and a lot better than I was expecting. I'm now on the bandwagon with the people who say it was one of the best new musicals of the season.

I think the show is ok, but I know plenty of people who dislike it. He/she is not alone.

Just to add my two cents to the chorus, I also have sent many people from work to Xanadu and everyone has come back loving it and wanting to see it again. Additionally, I hang out at Sardi's on Saturdays, a day that the place is packed with out-of-towners. Needless to say, I plug my favorite show and many have said it sounded like just the sort of thing they wanted to "get away from it all" and have gone. So, HUZZAH for the best musical of the season!!!!

Personally, I LOVE the show, but the OP is not alone-
I have suggested to 15- 20 people that they make the show a "must-see", and I have received responses that ranged from,
"you were right, it was excellent", to "how did you see this more than once?"-
Different strokes... different folks...

The OP is hardly alone. Why would anyone think that EVERYBODY who sees Xanadu likes it? No show can proclaim that. I know people who have loved Xanadu, others found it silly and mildly entertaining but would never see it again, and others who absolutely loathed it.

The OP is probably in the minority, and is definitely not the only one. It doesn't mean the poster doesn't have a sense of humor...some things didn't strike me as hilarious, either, although I enjoyed the show.
However, this has to sound like one of the stupidest things:
"Just pretend it is a high school show..and you will be fine!"

I never understand people who don't think the show is hysterically funny; however two of my best friends who do have wonderful senses of humor did not care for Xanadu nor thought it was funny in the least. So, what can you do?
I, on the other hand, think that Kerry Butler is hands down the funniest person on Broadway currently and think that every line delivery and gesture is comic genius.

Xanadu is brilliant. All the people I have taken to the show said it was the most fun they had in a Broadway theater! Too bad it won zero Tony's!

I'm beginning to feel that not winning the Tony won't be hurting ticket sales in this case. Xanadu made just too much of a good impression on the Tony Awards -- its presentation and Gypsy's were actually the only ones that did full justice to their respective shows. To cite one of my favorite examples, Sunset Boulevard and Smokey Joe's Cafe were up against each other in 1995. SB took a good sweep of the Tonys and SJC took nothing. HOWEVER, SJC made such a good showing of itself on the show that sales perked up immediately and the show ended up running the better part of four years. SB's sales, unfortunately, started to tank once Glenn Close left the show three weeks after the Tony and was never able to recoup. It limped along for less than two years, had no audiences on the road, and ended up in the red. I am NOT wishing this on In the Heights which is a worthy endeavor, but am trying to point out that a good showing on the Tonys CAN save a show's neck.

I'm kinda with Luvinbroadway on this. I really don't have any desire to see Xanadu. Sorry.
