The Tony noms of course don't usually match up with the OCC nominations - but they are always interesting.
How surprising would it be if WOMAN IN WHITE got a Best Musical Tony nom over TARZAN or WEDDING SINGER?

wow, im glad for so many people and shows!
this is how i imagine the tony nominations will end up looking like...minus the off-broadway nominations
re: Outer Critics Circle Award Nominations#9
Posted: 4/23/06 at 9:49pmThere was a little note at the bottom that Tarzan wasn't eligible this year.
re: Outer Critics Circle Award Nominations#10

Comments:
Snub for THREEPENNY for Revival of a Musical
Kathleen Marshall nominated for Oustanding Direction of a Musical is very odd.
Well, HOT FEET was not nominated for choreography, though I'm surpised THE COLOR PURPLE (Donald Byrd) did not get the nod over JERSEY BOYS.
Why did Michael Ball get a nomination yet Friedman was snubbed? Especially over Felciano?
Snubs for Bob Martin, Maria Friedman, Chita Rivera, Michael McKean, Manoel Felciano, Sutton Foster, Felicia Fields, Donna Lynn Champlin.

Yeah, I agree...if ANYONE from WIW deserved a nod, it was Mariah Friedman.
And no Felciano? That's just...I'm still shocked.
re: Outer Critics Circle Award Nominations#14
Posted: 4/23/06 at 10:01pmA friend of mine who is on the Tony nominating committee said she wouldn't be at all surprised if they only nominate PJ and SWEENEY for best musical revival, snubbing 3 PENNY, the only other candidate.

That would be such BS.
I hate people.

Guys don't freak about these. OOC awards have little importance.
Now the Drama Desk Awards, are our Golden Globes for the Tonys.

So much on this list is so wrong.
Hugh Panaro?
No Manoel?
The Woman in White for Outstanding Musical but no Maria Friedman?
re: Outer Critics Circle Award Nominations#18
Posted: 4/23/06 at 10:08pm
The Drama Desk Awards have 6 slots in each category, while the Tonys have only 5.
How does that effect predicting one from the other?
re: Outer Critics Circle Award Nominations#19
Posted: 4/23/06 at 10:13pm
Yeah...FESTEN & PRIMO over RABBIT HOLE?!?! (Not that PRIMO was a Bad play, it was actually quite good).
I just don't think the TONYS will recognize either of those two over a new AMERICAN play that was fantastic.
OCC confuse the hell out of me year in and year out. No Tyne Daly? No Maria Friedman? No Donald Byrd for CP? Although, I am glad to see WIW picked over Wedding Singer - that was one right pick at least.
re: Outer Critics Circle Award Nominations#20
Posted: 4/23/06 at 10:14pmYeah, I definitely don't understand why FESTEN was nominated and not RABBIT HOLE.
re: Outer Critics Circle Award Nominations#21
Posted: 4/23/06 at 10:15pm
If Manoel doesn't make it into one of those 6 slots, I will seriously...just...go out and murder someone. Who else is there?
At least there's been a general outcry of "Where's Manoel?"
And no Tony nod for Threepenny? That would be insane!!
re: Outer Critics Circle Award Nominations#22
Posted: 4/23/06 at 10:19pmThe drama desk awards only make things MORE complicated because they lump Broadway/Off Broadway together. I don't think its a very good indicator of the Tonys - particularly in a year like this where Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson could win easily and not even be eligible for a Tony.

The Drama Desks include Off-Broadway, so they aren't a great predictor for the Tonys either -- though they're nominations typically make more sense than the OCC which are always a little strange every year.
