So...months ago it was annoucned that Harry Connick Jr. was signed on to star in the long awaited revival of THE PAJAMA GAME. Scheduled to direct & choreograph was WONDERFUL TOWN grand dame Kathleen Marshall. Since then we have heard NOTHING about what seemed like a fated project. However, I have been hearing some rumblings that ROUNDABOUT is near ready to announce THE PAJAMA GAME as their Spring 06 show at the American Airlines theatre...sounds promising to me.
Leaving next years FOR SURE musical reviavals to be SWEENY TODD, THREE PENNY OPERA, and quite possibly THE PAJAMA GAME. The later 2 being Roundabout productions. Well at least they arent butchering Sohndheim anymore.

Well...it got decent reviews and won the Tony, but word of mouth wasn't THAT hot for Assassins and Roundabouts constant we'll extend we won't extend tactics killed that show. Now Pacific Overtures...that was butchering.

Interesting. Good that Roundabout is doing it, and not a commercial producer. He better get a good Babe.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:07amI was not a fan of Roundabout's Pacific Overtures (although I am not wild about the show itself), but I LOVED their revival of Assassins. An amazing production with a tremendous cast. Certainly not a butchering.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:10amSee, I adored Pacific Overtures, but was lukewarm on Assassins -- which pretty much reflects my feelings towards the works themselves.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:10amoh my god...i am SO EXCITED for this production. hopefully I will be able to attend the first preview. I am definitely bringing my Thou Shalt Not CD booklet for him to sign at the stage door. Any suggestions for Babe?

Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:10amSome of the songs were butchered by bad singers, but the staging of Asassins was amazing.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:22amThere was a seemingly endless thread of Babe suggestions a while back.
#11re: PAJAMA GAME?!?!
Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:25amThey'll get somebody young to play opposite Connick -- think Erin Dilly or Kate Baldwin.
#12re: PAJAMA GAME?!?!
Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:29amMaybe Sutton Foster or Susan Egan . . . (please NOT Erin Dilly -- she was so dull in Chitty.)

Posted: 8/15/05 at 1:31pmI actually think it's more important to have a good Babe. Why didn't they cast her first? I think with all the great talent around that they could have done better than HCjr. I don't think he is "commanding" enough to play the role.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 1:35pmThe only suggestion I'd make is be careful what you say about "Thou Shalt Not" around Mr. Connick Jr.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 1:39pmI played Prez in two separate productions of the PJ Game. I am very excited that there is going to be a Broadway revival. I love the score! Definitely full of a lot of classic tunes. I just the production comes together well. Isn't there supposed to be a new song in this production by orginal composer Richard Adler? Also, I wonder what revisions are going to be made to the book...I have a feeling that the character I played may be viewed as non-PC!

I liked both Assassins AND Pacific Overtures. I must really be nuts.
But I never saw the originals of either, so that was not part of my judgment.
As to The Pajama Game, I'm looking forward to this one. I like Harry Connick Jr. -- as long as he's not writing songs about tugboats.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 2:09pmSumofallthings: Don't worry. I don't plan on mentioning anything to him about the show. After he signs my Pajama Game playbill, I am just going to nicely ask "Could you also sign my CD cover?" as I put it in front of the playbill. Hopefully he will sign it because he will also see that Norbert Leo Butz signed it. (got norbert to sign it after i saw DRS on March 19th) I also plan on getting Debra Monk to sign it and the booklet for Steel Pier after one of her performances in Chicago. No, I did not see Thou Shalt Not and I *never* listen to the CD. I am just obsessed with flops.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 2:48pmI think id prefer Sutton Foster, Marla Shaffel, Erin Dilly, or Rebecca Luker. Although I would have LOVED to have seen a younger Beth Leval do the role.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 2:58pmFor some reason, I always imagined Babe being slightly older than Sid...

Posted: 8/15/05 at 4:25pmi'm actually excited about this news... would love to see sutton foster take it on instead of that stupid drowsy chaperone stuff... however, star power would allow for brooke shields, and she deserves to create a role (well, not create, but originate in a revival... you know what i mean!)
