There are SOOO many shows I wish they could record commercially this year. Next to Normal's final performance, La Cage, Night Music, etc. What do you guys think?

Night Music.... I would love to have that on PBS :)
I agree on Night Music and Next to Normal. Those shows, including the performances, should be captured for those who aren't able to see it.
Night Music.

FYI -- PBS doesn't film ANY of those Broadway musicals they aired. ALL of those Broadway musicals that aired on PBS were all privately produced (all those Sondheim shows, recent revival of COMPANY, etc.).
These producers negotiate with PBS over certain rights (DVD sales; reairings, etc.) and PBS airs them as part of their GREAT PERFORMANCE series. Again... PBS does NOT film anything -- they only show these.
Same applies with LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER. Lincoln Center films all those productions (CONTACT, SOUTH PACIFIC, LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, etc.) and owns all their rights. PBS just airs them -- they do NOT film them.
As much as it'd be nice to see Next to Normal and A Little Night Music filmed, especially Next to Normal with Marin and Jason, it seems highly unlikely they will. Things just don't always work out.
I think the most likely candidate for a Great Performances airing would be NIGHT MUSIC.
Isn't all Sondheim's works filmed at some point? SITPWG, Into The Woods, passion, Company...I would think they have A little Night Music planned already. Of, course I'm trying to convince myself

Sweeney Todd got TWO tapings AND a major motion picture, don't forget.
I was shocked that they didn't film it with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury. I wouldn't be surprised at all for them to do it with Elaine and Bernadette though.

THE GAZILLION BUBBLE SHOW
And Pacific Overtures got that obscure Japanese filming.
very true about Pacific Overtures..I had not mentioned it because it was not "commercially" released
It does seem possible that we could get a recording of either.
A Little Night Music with the precedent of all the past Sondheim recordings.
Next to Normal with the precedent of the RENT final performance DVD (I mean because of Michael Grief's involvement, maybe he knows how to get things turning),
I would be immensely happy with either of them.

In theory they could still film Night Music with Catherine and Angela. If I remember correctly both Sunday in the Park with George and Into the Woods were filmed after their respective runs, bringing the casts back together for the filmings.
as much as i would love Night Music to be recorded/aired, i would so much prefer Next to Normal just because its so different and can show a different and possibly more mainstream side of broadway. While I appreciate/love South Pacific, Light in the Piazza and the others they have shown, id also love for people to have a chance to see the more "edgy" shows be showcased as well.

BrodyFosse123- FYI, that matters. It really does.
CandiceElyse - I agree, so many people have yet to see Next to Normal... or even discover it. An airing of it would be nice to see.
I'd love NEXT TO NORMAL to be filmed, over NIGHT MUSIC. Just because almost every Soundheim show gets this treatment and some other artists should enjoy the luxury of having their shows filmed. And, because NEXT TO NORMAL is an incredible, Pulitzer-winning musical.
Technically there already was a filming of NIGHT MUSIC shown on Live from Lincoln Center however I think this current production is infinately better and would love to see it done. I honestly can't decide if I'd rather have Catherine or Bernadette, I loved them both SO much. However I would MUCH rather have Angela Lansbury!!!
Add my vote to the NEXT TO NORMAL polls as well, but the one I'd want the MOST would be LA CAGE with the current cast!

I would like to see the upcoming "Les Miserables 25th Anniversary" concert on PBS.
Even though these shows have yet to make broadway, I would like to see "Yoduk Story" on PBS great performances(since I didn't get to see it when it was in the U.S). and "Great Queen Seon Deok" because I loved the Korean drama that the show is adapted from.
It has to be Next to Normal. It's the most important musical to come along in years, and there should be an acknowledgement of that in the form of a national telecast. I suppose there would be a cast issue, however. As much as most of us love Marin Mazzie, the definitive interpretation of Diana surely belongs to Alice Ripley and that might be a stumbling block.

hahaha, Women on the verge :) Please.
Well we can all email them and see if it's even possible (While GP does not film the productions, they usually fund at least part of the filming). In 2008 when Gypsy was to be recorded, they responded to our emails.
