It says the article isn't there anymore.
But I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.

Or maybe they just didn't want it up.
I'm not suprised, really. I was wondering how long it'd last like this.

edit- sorry guys. didn't know it would mess up the formatting
re: playboy: 'rent to close if movie doesn't stiffen sales#8
Posted: 11/11/04 at 6:18pmI hate to say this, but I'd sooner see it close than go on dying with this ridiculous stunt casting. Still, that would be tragic if it did.

I know how you feel, NTG. I love the show, but the current production is dismal at best. Let it die with dignity or else FIX IT.
And I'm a bit curious to see how regional theatres or arts colleges would do it... actually, I can think of some places around here that might do it justice.

Posted: 11/11/04 at 6:32pmAs surprising as this news is (if its true) I am not surprised at all. I would've been happier if the show closed before all the bad stunt casting.

insomniak...if we want it to die in dignity its too late. The stunt casting isn't even the problem...I saw it with all unkowns, and there was one exceptional peformance in the cast, one adequate one...and the rest was a complete mess.
I just wish they would fix the mess that the show has become.
And Lyte...PLEASE fix that post, its screwing up the thread.

Posted: 11/11/04 at 7:15pmAgreed, broadwaygirl. The tour was fantastic but I was sorely disapointed with the broadway cast. Very uninspired performances. Care to tell me who liked and hated?

Posted: 11/11/04 at 7:17pmHm. Kind of peculiar that it isn't there anymore.... and I hate to say this, but it could VERY well be true. It might kill me, but that's besides the point - go kick some arse on that film, OBC!

This thread almost gave me a heart attack!! wow, peole WANT RENT to close?! that really stinks =*( I haven't been to the Nederlander in a few months, but when I saw it, the show was in fine shape. I know everyone has their own "favorite" casts, and it seems like you just can't please everyone. Stunt casting can suck, but RENT is hardly the first show to use it, and it won't be the last. Plus, from what i've heard, Joey and Drew haven't been total disasters. Anyone remember Melanie Grifith in Chicago?? THAT was painful, by all accounts =P
If RENT closed anytime soon I don't know what i'd do =*(

Posted: 11/11/04 at 7:21pmJust to clear my conscience - I don't *want* the show to close, but sometimes I feel like it needs to before it goes even further downhill. It's been dying very slowly for the past couple of years. It's tired and lacks the energy it should have. It either needs to close soon or it needs some serious cleaning up. And I love this show. I don't think I could stand having to say goodbye, but it's inevitable, and eventually will be for the best.

*puts on cheerleading outfit, complete with pom-poms*
LET'S GO, OBC! KICK SOME NEW CAST ASS!
Point demonstrated? I wouldn't dress up like a cheerleader for just anything. They better save it. If they do, the broadway production might get more attention again and better people might try out and be cast.
*nods*
*nods vigorously*
Oh, who am I kidding? It's all gone to hell.

Broadwayguy, why so mean? I HAVE a life, and I know RENT is "just a show" but it's a show I happen to care very deeply about.
I really want to know, who specifically did you all see in the cast that made you hate the current production on Broadcway? Honestly, all I know is the last 2 times I saw it on Broadway, I was thrilled beyond words. Maybe you guys don't really like the show because you've "grown out" of your RENT phase or whatever? Just something to think about...Something's weird though, because the show I saw a few months ago was far from a disaster. Ah well, c'est la vie.

I'm not trying to be mean.
It's justa show and there is no need to be so obsessive about it.
The show is sloppya nd the cast gives highe nergy but lazy performances. I explained that in the thread with Anthony. Even he doesn't want to see the current cast and production as its tands. a LOT of people have finally admited that tehs how is sloppy and lazy the last few years and that when they see it, the enjoyment lies more in remembering the first time they saw it.

Posted: 11/11/04 at 7:51pmI'm a little suspicious of this - after all, the movie won't be opening for at least a year.
