Yes, I was listening to the OBCR every day for a week and a half before I saw the show and knowing the score beforehand made me appreciate the show even more. The score is wonderful and Audra is fantastic. So glad her "Raunchy" will be preserved on disc (and hopefully the performance will be preserved if she does that number on the Tony Awards). I am so pulling for this show to win Best Revival.
Great news !!! Now I will have three recordings of this beloved musical ..(the OBC, Studio Recording feat. Karen Ziemba & Ron Raines) This is a great year for Cast Recordings -- We have Grey Gardens, Spring Awakening , Company & A Chorus Line and soon we will have Curtains & High Fidelity and I heard there were plans for Pirate Queen & Legally Blonde to be recorded soon .Too bad there was no recording of Apple Tree with Kristin Chenoweth (but I heard her new coming CD will feat 2 songs from The Apple Tree)-J*
Yay! That's exciting. I just bought the studio recording so I will be familiar with the score before I see the show in a couple of weeks. Karen Ziemba is spunky!
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
I just finished listening to my recording and I have to say, it was so beautiful. I LOVE "Simple Little Things" and "Old Maid." They're so simple, yet beautiful. I love how Audra uses her accent, but not with all the words. She sort of just hints at it instead of laying into it. I wish I could see this show live.
