I have been really torn about wether or not to see this musical. Would anyone care to share their thoughts and experience they have/had with this show? I don't know much about it, but it just seems to be a very odd musical.
I always thought that your username came from 'Chrysanthemum Tea' from PO. Hmm.
Anyway, definately see it before it closes on the 30th.
One of the finest shows on the Broadway stage in the last decade.
The cast is great (especially Alvin Ing) and the entire production is amazing.
Sondheim's score is spectacular and Weidman's book is innovative and seamless.

I rated this as one of the top ten shows in New York in 2004. A first rate production of a theatrical masterpiece. Definitely see it if you can.
Definitely check it out. As Priest said..great score, seamless book, great cast, and an overall fantastic production...not to mention a unique show.
Without going into great details -- see this show. Don't listen to the mixed reviews -- the beautiful score shines, the cast is great across the boards, some of the staging is unbelievably innvoative, and all of the design elements across the boards are great. Do yourself a favor and see this before it closes.
I enjoyed it more than I enjyoed the HIGHLY recommended Roundabout revival of "Assassins" this summer.
Big yay. Go see it.
It's Sondheim. That's good enough for me.

Thanks guys, that's all I needed! I'll be going Saturday!
Personally, I think it's a great show but only a semi-satisfying production. I think the lightened importance does a great disservice to the piece. However, it's still beautiful and the cast is fairly strong (agreed about Alvin Ing). I have my problems with it, but it's definitely a show to catch as it's not likely to be seen anywhere else for a while. It's certainly "odd." If you're not used to Japanese styles, that may throw you off a little bit.

Is this show closing on Sunday? I must go back. I do agree with an above comment, however - brilliant show, half-brilliant staging. The original was much more effective and direct, but the revival still gets the point across beautifully.
Can this show be up for best lighting for a Tony? I thought it was fantastic - as well as the rest of the show.
Definate big YAY. Go see it before it closes.
I still haven't seen the production yet. I'm not exactly sure why I've waited. I jave tickets for the closing matinee, and you should probably get your tickets fast. I bought the tickets full price at the Box Office two weeks ago and the best that I could get were front right mezzanine.
The show will be great, though. Sondheim is a genius, and this score is one of his strongest.
One of the best shows I've seen in years. Technically brilliant (with the exception of some sound problems which may be due to poor acoustics)...Great cast, wonderful staging and, of course, Sondheim at the top of his form.
YAY A THOUSAND TIMES!
ok....im sorry guys...if u liked it...i fell asleep literally while seeing "pacific overtures" a total sleeper...it was boring...theatre is suposed to be entertaining i think....i would advice u to go see "wonderful town" before it closes during the same day! dont waste ur time on "pacific overtures" NO NO
I'm a huge sondheim fan, but i foudn this one of his weaker shows. Musically it is still sondheim but I feel it failed to draw me in or feel for the characters. I definitely enjoyed the show (espicially compared with whatelse is out there) but I have higher expectations of sondheim. I thought it is an amazing production of a good musical.
It's a wonderful score and beautifully done. Let us know your take on it after you've seen it, please!

FELL ASLEEP?!?! Jesus Christ, what does a show have to do to keep you entertained??? Scream Beach Boys songs? That's a shame if you can't appreciate a show unless it is filled with glitz, glamour, lights, sparkle and shimmer. Try appreciating a deep, emotional piece, as well as campy sh!t. Maybe you'll learn something you didn't know.
Great Big YAY. One of the best scores currently on Broadway.
YAY, YAY, YAY, YAY - POSITIVELY, ABSOLUTELY... YAY!!!!!
Do you need any more "yay"s?
Yay.

NAY!
I'm with muscle on this one. I have been bashed quite a bit, but I just didn't think Pacific Overtures was that great. Yes the music is good, but the other elements of the show never came together for me. Wanted to leave after the first act, friends talked me into staying, the second act was a bit better, but overall I did not care for the production.
As much as I don't find this show to be one of Sondheim's best shows I still say that it is something that needs to be seen! As I said above it is an amazing production of a good Sondheim show, just not one of my favorites of his shows.
