It's been announced Paige Davis will be playing Maria in The Sound of Music this summer in Pittsburgh opposite Robert Cuccioli as Captain.
I find this an interesting casting choice. What do you guys think about this? Do you think she has the voice for this role? I definetly think she has the charm and stage presence for Maria, but I'm quite curious how her singing for the role would be.
I would love to see this.
So any thoughts on this casting choice?

Have you heard her sing? Just got home from seeing her in Chicago, she DEFINITLEY has the voice for Maria. She rocks, and is sooooooo cute.
I thought we were going to see her in Chicago, but she wasn't on that night. I knew she was a dancer, but I never knew if she could sing or not. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

sfs1414 I also live in Pittsburgh. I can't wait to see this. Her and Robert Cuccioli will be great together
Paige is gonna be in The Sound of Music?!?! YAY! I guess I'll be making a trip down to Pittsburgh this summer! Thanks for the info!
I Love Paige! I think she's really talented, and people think "Oh, well she was only cast in Chicago because she was a TV star, but she was in BatB tour before Trading Spaces AND Chicago. This is SO exciting!
"I think it was the Korean tour or something. They were all frickin' asian!" -Zoran912
Davis actually attended the Youth Performing Arts School here in Louisville, KY. When I was a junior in high school I saw her play Anita in "West Side Story." That would have been in 1986. This was the my first time seeing WSS on stage and her performance was a memorable one.
I could definitly see that casting choice work for the better. I personally love Paige, she a very talented actress, singer and dancer. I can't wait to hear how this goes.
On another Paige note, I happened to catch the new Trading Spaces with no hosts last night and I have to say that I really didn't enjoy it all that much. The host was what tied the whole thing together I think and now its just kind of lacking something and it feels really incomplete. I'm not sure what TLC was thinking when they thought this would better the show's ratings but oh well. Just wanted to drop a note on that in.
I was not expecting her to be good in chicago, but she was amazing!
I am going to be in Pitt when she's performing, I am just going to have to go see her now!!!
Paige Davis as Maria?????
Sounds like a bad dream to me

What I wouldn't give to be anywhere even near Pittsburgh.
I saw the new format on Trading Spaces too. It was dreadful and boring.
They ruined a fun show.
I would certainly consider it. She's great!
I agree with the new Trading Spaces. The hostless format is terrible. The show just flounders around with no direction. They made a HUGE mistake in letting Paige go. Without a host to at least provide a narrative of the action, it very erratic and episodic. Quite boring. I think the show is doomed.
Does anyone know the dates of this Sound of Music production?

Agree 100% on Trading Spaces...watched it this past weekend and it seemed completely unfocused without a host (and deadly boring without Paige).
And I'll never be able to convince my husband to watch it now that she's gone LOL!
Back to the original topic...I'd love to see her as Maria...maybe a summer trip to Pittsburgh is in order!
I'd love to see Paige as Maria. If only I lived closer. It looks like the season is going to be great.
Regarding Trading Spaces, I read an interesting story online about it and TLC yesterday (don't remember where). The title of the story was, "When a Hit Show Flops" or something along those lines. Apparently a lot of people involved with that show were let go. I personally think the show ran its course and wasn't helped by designers Doug or Hildy.

Trading Spaces jumped the shark ages ago when Vern left and the powers that be spun it off in all directions and introduced a tonne of new designers that nobody gave a **** about. Heck at least Hildi invoked emotions, all the new one are like... ergh... bleh...

I think they should have given Paige Davis the part of Charity for the big opening of Sweet Charity. Then she could sing "If They Could See Me Now!" I would love that!!!

Vern rocked. His designs were exquisite. He and Genevieve were my favorite designers. Hildi only wanted to try weird unusual stuff and didn't really consider whether or not it suited the needs of the homeowners. Doug would just do the opposite of the tastes of the homeowners and try to force them to like it. They were both too self-indulgent. I did see Doug appear in some random small role on Monk once.
Being a Pittsburgh resident, I think it will be very interesting to see Paige perform, and I can't wait to see Cuccioli. I'm actually interested in going now, despite my hate for that show.
Can't say I'mm too excited about the whole season though...would have liked to see a real song-and-dance treat this season, like Me and My Girl last year.
Still, casting seems to be off on a terrific start for the whole season, with Dee Hoty as Desiree, and Mark Jacoby as the Pirate King, and Alice Ripley in Tommy...don't know anything about the people cast in Carousel though, (easily my favorite show of the upcoming season) which i guess could be a good thing. (Didn't know shat about James Brennan either)
Who is doing the show? What theatre or company? Where can one find the info on these performances? I did a web search, but all I could find were old articles about Paige or about Sound of Music, but nothing about this production.
