This week , the producers will announce a national tour. Casting agents were getting calls to make proposals. This is staggering given the mixed reviews and limited grosses.
Not an uncommon occurrence for procurers to announce national tours during Tony season. Doesn't necessarily mean it will happen.
Musicals announcing a nation tour right before Tony nomination voting occurs is a tried and true move from the Tony playbook. They don't all come to fruition in the end.
That said, I do think that if they did an overhaul of the marketing for this show (scrap the pretty but uninformative artwork and instead use some performance footage. Focus on the characters and the emotion, the scale of the set, and showcase a song) it is a show that COULD sell on tour. I do think there is a market for a musical like this if advertised properly.

They've pretty much done that post-opening in their email blasts and programmatic ads, but I don't think it is helping.
I have sort of assumed this will have a non-Equity tour eventually, since "Broadway & Beyond Theatricals" (which specializes in non-union tours) is a co-producer and has a title page credit for Exclusive Tour Direction. If AMAZING GRACE can get a non-Eq tour, then I guess this can too.

The marketing including the hilarious lamppost website (keep waiting for Mary Poppins to fly in) remains dated, meagre and out of tune with how people buy tickets today. The double truck ad that ran this past weekend loaded with quotes and an ensemble cast pic had no soul or promise . Yes, the purpose was to try and communicate ahit show, but it looked like saloon wallpaper. There is no reason to go. The creative 101 of selling a new brand filled with interesting characters has been abandoned. Regardless, this ship has sailed.
Honestly stumbled across a video of "Let it Burn" on YouTube and that peaked my interest. Really pretty song and staging. I would buy a ticket to see more.
$253,000+ last week.

That gross says it all - post reviews, post covid full week. This is about hanging on to Tony noms and possible awards show. However, if it does not get a Best Musical nom, it's all done.
Nominations have never saved a show. It is seldom that anything other than Best Musical sees a huge bump in ticket sales.
