The cast is to die for! This will be one of the best shows in New York this season, and I hope it runs until March so I can see it.

No there is a chance for it to extend!!!!!!!

Why does Broadway get everything that is good from the West End transferring over, but we hardly get ANYTHING from them anymore (Ok I know Spring/Drowsy failing didn't help that matter).

I HATE that so many West End shows are outstaying their welcome and hogging the good theatres (Yes GREASE I am talking to you, GO AWAY!)

*Rant Over*

Because the West End is a creative waste land for new musical theatre!

Nothing has been a hit for years. Its been a long, long time when we had lots of new shows every year and some of them of actual quality.

Broadway is where you debut new musical theatre. New musical theatre with top tier performers that we just cannot compete with. Sure we have some great performers but they rarely get the chance to stretch themselves with new roles.

It seems a short run, yes, 16 weeks .
It may get a short extension but I think the problem is the big cast names that probably cant commit longer etc. With rehearsal period included the contracts are already around 5 months.

Patti LuPone Has A Nervous Breakdown

This was already near the top of my list of must-sees on my trip to New York in November. With this cast it is now right at the top of that list!

Looking forward to seeing this in November, with fabulous cast.

No chance of this winning a Tony then.

Can't we get that production of Gypsy without her anyway?

Does she need to be in it? We have Elaine Paige for example Patti LuPone Has A Nervous Breakdown

I can never quite understand all the "Patti hate". I've seen her live four times (Les Mis, Sunset, Sweeney & Gypsy) and each time she was fan-f**ckingtastic!

And the Laurents production of Gypsy was not particularly special in itself - the only thing special about it was the three central performances - Benanti, Gaines and (especially) Lupone.

You can be sure Lincoln Center Theater is hoping this will run for a while. Remember, South Pacific was originally only on sale through mid-June 2008 even though most of the cast signed contracts through December of that year.

If it's not a success, they can close in January as scheduled. If it does well, it will extend.

Bob, I saw those four performances and I cant say any struck me to be above the usual wailing LuPone act.

Sorry but I have never seen anything that special about her. She's ok, but her attitude stinks, she's a nasty piece of work and suffers from 'the diva' attitude that all my fellow gays seem to think makes her great (i never understood that, its kinda pathetic).....I just think she's a bitch lol
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

Patti LuPone Has A Nervous Breakdown

I can't comment on whether or not she's a bitch LOL as I don;t know her personally. All I know is I love her voice and was blown away by her stage presence each time I saw her. And maybe I'm a bit more biased towards her because of her family connection to the upper Swansea valley where I live!

Her performance in GYPSY was dangerous and grotesque. I was moved to sobbing tears at the end of the show. She really reached out and went there. And I saw a performance that was just shy of being 300.
How to properly use its/it's: Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

I also saw those productions, and each time I found her a liability- she over-acts grotesquely, and that foghorn she invokes as her voice- sheesh! i don't know if it the result of some technique, or whether it is her trademark, but it has become increasingly exaggerated and ear-harming.

I have no opinions on her behaviour- I've not met her, though the reports I've heard about 'Sunset' were less than charming. (Having said that, very few people come out of that show's rehearsal/ preview/ opening period with much cred!)

As a performer though, it is my humble opinion that she stinks.

Patti LuPone Has A Nervous Breakdown

I saw her in Sunset, must be 15 years ago now, she was very good as Norma, but saying that I was young and in no position to critique the cast nor the show.

I am unaware of her history, except for a little tiff with ALW, so when I see her in November I will be just judging her on that performance.

I would of loved to see Gypsy, but did not get out to New York in time.

Patti LuPone Has A Nervous Breakdown

Clapyohands - Patti Lupone is the Great-grand-niece of the legendary soprano Adelina Patti, THE operatic diva of her age (in the late 19th and early 20th century). Adelina Patti (who was born in Spain but brought up the Bronx!) made her home after she reached the height of her career in the upper Swansea Valley, where she built Craig-y-nos castle, just a few miles north of where I live. My great-grandfather was Adelina Patti's coachman. When I went to see Gypsy I took some photos I had taken of Craig-y-Nos with me and gave them to Patti - and she was really lovely.

Of, course I remember now. I remember taking note when driving past that castle that it was, in fact, this connection.

The same Adelina Patti that is mentioned in Calamity Jane...little musical connection for you there!
