I was there - It was amazing.... her voice was much more 'acrobatic' than when I saw it in Orange County last year. The audience in San Fran loved her, and she totally fed off of the energy. She was belting every song! The song list included all the songs from The Lady with the Torch cd (and the bonus tracks too) plus some others.
But Patti singing great is nothing new.... something so hilarious did happen though. She started singing "The Other Woman" in the first act, totally screwed up the lyrics to the 3rd line of the song, and sang out "FOR ME, FOR ME, FOR ME!!!!" instead. Then, she said "Some of you get it... if ever I forget the words now, I just want to say FOR ME." Then, she made Chris Fenwick start the song over after he reminded her of the words. She also told the audience "It's the great American race... flying to San Fran for 1 night, and then back to New York on a redeye to close Gypsy."
Oh wait... then, it gets better..... she flubs the lyrics to a song in the 2nd act (I forget which song), and screams "FOR ME" again!!!!
After the show, there were about 10 people waiting to talk to her. I brought my Gypsy poster since I did not get it signed in NY last week when I saw it (as there were at least 200 people at the stage door). But I guess she had to catch her flight, cause she left really fast.
Overall, a fantastic performance (as usual), and I admire her for sticking to it... god knows I would have canceled the concert if I were in the middle of a broadway run.

Posted: 7/29/07 at 3:35pmI wish I had been able to go! I'm holding out hope she brings "Gypsy" here someday. SF would be the perfect place for Patti and "Gypsy" to start a tour.

Posted: 7/29/07 at 7:16pmI hope I get to see her in concert someday soon. Do you think she would ever agree to a Gypsy tour? Do you think she loves the role enough to agree to touring, even though she's far too big a name to have to?

How did she have a concert here last night, wasn't supposed to be doing GYPSY since today is their last performance?

There wasn't a performance last night, DrTheatre. She went out to California to do the concert and flew back to New York to do the last show.
HAHA, I love the "FOR ME!" story. She's a trip.
There wouldn't be lights bright enough!
