Oh for Christ's sake.
"How is tap dancing gonna help her in this show? The character of Camila hardly dances at all in the show. It's more of an acting role, which Paula has never done (or if you want Bruno to count)."
I agree with you, and i did agree with the jump the shark analogy and also understand the negative feed back. i don't expect anything. also, i was commenting more on the assumption that Paula is a drunk. she isn't. that's why i quoted that bit. :)
i have never seen her act either. live singing? no. (even that AI performance she did a few years ago wasn't) - i think she argued that she did sing live, but i don't think so. and i truly don't know how this is going to be pulled off. i still say people will go just to see.
I thought Lopez was wasting her talent in the show.
Name 5 other roles in her age range on Broadway. It's this or like, Madame Morrible.
As for the topic...I'm just going to pretend this isn't happening. Ugh.
I actually like this stunt casting :)
Why? Being the huge Idol fan that I am, and loving theater, this is like a dream come true. Good or bad, I just know Paula is going to be entertaining.
Are there more deserving people? heck yes.
I'll definitely be checking the show out this summer.
Bizarre. But I would be curious to see her. Plus I want to see Bianca.

I finally got around to seeing this tonight. I resisted because friends had walked out after the first act and i usually agree with their taste. THIS won best musical AND score?????? The music was so unmemorable and blah- it all sounded tuneless...just horrible melodies(?) put to real banal lyrics-I hate rap a lot so those numbers just annoyed me....yuchhh. Set was super... The choreography was good except the modern dance movements which I thought were ridiculous. The cast was great- lots of personality-Andrea Burns is a powerhouse as was Ducal, the Vanessa, Olga and I liked watching the chubby red haired singer....Corbin is adorable but could not understand his dialogue- project to the balcony Corbin. My rating B-...they sold his tee shirt for BCEFA for $650 and added $500 for another bidder- they get to go backstage to meet him- BRAVO for that!

WAIT. WHAT?? LOL. Heights is a modern show set in modern time. How are those moves ridiculous?
This is going to be a HOT MESS. And I will totally go see her in it. This is gonna be crazy.
Obviously In the Heights would have benefited from a waltz.

Re modern dance: There were "Martha Graham" type movements during some transitions,,,I wasn't referring to the "street" choreography...so don't get your tits in a snit my friends.

I AGREE 100%, awful!!!
and I feel sorry for anyone paying to meet that guy backstage.

You know? I agree, but the show is SOOOOOOO bad, I won't even be able to take it, even if a pop mega star like Paula joins, I would have paid top dollar to see her in Sweet Charity though.
Muscle, you lost all credibility back when you posted that Angela Lansbury "can't sing."
Paula would have been even more of a hot mess in Sweet Charity, where she would have had to sing, dance, and act.
Apparently this whole thing isn't true.

^ well well well.
now, coreographing the new motion picture does make more sense.
Couldn't agree with you more Adamgreer - have absolutely zero tolerance for his posts and can't believe it took me this long to state it.

Im glad you got it out of your system. Honey, I don't know who the f*** you think you are that you can say who has credibility and who doesn't? Are you god or something? I heard he is the only one that can judge.
Angela Lansbury can't sing?!!! WTF!!!
I am seriously shaking my head at this statement.
She may not be in the same caliber as say, Barbra Streisand but Miss Lansbury can hold her own on the musical stage. She has character and wit in her delivery. Just one listen to anything she's ever recorded from MAME to PRETTYBELLE to GYPSY, SWEENEY TODD an beyond is ultimate proof of this.
Paula Abdul, a pop MEGA-star?!!! :: rolls eyes :: You have GOT to be KIDDING me!
You can have your Paula Abdul...I'll stick with Angela Lansbury.
Paula will NOT be doing the show, thank Jeebus
"A spokesperson for the Broadway production of In the Heights told Playbill.com March 26 that pop singer Paula Abdul will not make her Broadway debut in that Tony Award-winning musical."
Playbill story
Oh my God, ENOUGH! heh.
Glad it's not true... Besides it seems silly to do all their stunt casting with NON-Hispanic performers.
