Since GHOST and Spider-Man did not receive Best Musical nominations, does that mean that they won't be performing at the awards then?
Not necessarily. Usually the non-nominated shows get to do mini-performances, though I feel like that's a recent trend.
On a related note, what do you think the nominated shows will do? I'd say Newsies will almost certainly do King of New York, maybe a medley with Seize the Day.
Newsies - Seize the Day/Santa Fe medley
Once - Falling Slowly
Evita - Buenos Aires
And I REALLY hope that Ghost and Spider-Man get to perform.
Of course Leap of Faith will perform, likely using Raul...

I kinda think Once will do Gold. They wanted to do that for their Letterman appearance, but it was too big, so this is a good chance to do it. It involves the whole cast and some choreography.
But they could always go with the more well known Falling Slowly.

Thats if Leap has the money come June 10th, you have to pay to perform on the tonys..... its essentially ad time....
^Oh, I did not know that.
Well in that case, I assume Spiderman and Ghost will both perform then.
And maybe Memphis will make a return for a third time to perform...lol

Wouldn't be surprised if Book of Mormon performed, since Memphis did last year. "Hello" to open the show anyone?

One only hopes that Raul will perform "Feed Me" from Little Shop on the telecast while chomping down on a complimentary gift basket. Alan Menken can take cue from Sir Webber and just put the song in "Faith" this weekend a la "The Heart Is Slow To Learn"/"Our Kind Of Love"/"Love Never Dies". And Slater did both LND and LOF, perfect!

if they begin the show with a performance like they've done before (ie '07 w/ the cast of A Chorus Line) it would be fun to see the Newsies boys doing "Carrying the Banner" but I think more likely is going to be "Kings of New York"
Once will probably go with Falling Slowly- after all, that song did win an Oscar in '07. WIth Jeremy's nomination Newsies will want to do some medley with Santa Fe, probably with Seize the Day to showcase the whole ensemble and sure-to-win choreography. If Newsies were to win and the winner got to perform at the end (a la Memphis '10), King of New York would kind of be perfect!
yeah I think Once will go with Falling Slowly, the orchestrations highlight the ensemble really nicely. For Newsies, King of New York would be so fun if they won!! It would be a great way to end the show.
I really don't see Newsies doing a song that doesn't involve Jeremy Jordan.
that's the only problem with King of New York, that Jeremy's not in it, that's why they might do it combined with Santa Fe (like they did when they performed on GMA) but if they do Seize the Day he's involved.
Once- Falling Slowly/ Gold
Nice Work- ?????
Newsies- Santa Fe/ Seize the Day
Leap of Faith- Step Into the Light/ Leap of Faith
Follies- ?????
Porgy and Bess- Summertime/ Bess, You Is My Woman Now
Jesus Christ Superstar- ?????
Evita- Buenos Aires
Follies presents an interesting challenge that I didn't really think about. They have tons of nominations that they'll want to give stage time and a lot of options but no song that particularly shows off all four leads. (Except "Waiting for the Girls Upstairs" which isn't one of the show's showier numbers)
Start with "Broadway Baby" and end with a truncated Medley of the LOVELAND songs?
^That would be a hot mess. A truncated version of Broadway Baby would work well since everyone's familiar with it and you could really do one verse to showcase the whole song. On the other hand, a medley of the four Loveland numbers that are effective mainly because we've been watching the arc of the characters develop throughout the show would be all over the place. I pray they don't go that route.
Mmm, it is difficult. Maybe the cast will be tired from closing the show in LA the night before and they can just let Bernadette sing "In Buddy's Eyes" or "Losing My Mind" :P. The revival did seem to be built around her and it would be nice to let her have one last moment with the show.
Maybe, just maybe they'll do "Once & For All" for Newsies because it's quite different (better even) than the movie version. Hopefully, they probably want to show off the show's choreography which makes me think "Carry the Banner" or "Seize the Day."

Does anyone think that Follies will do Who's That Woman? It really only showcases Terri White but it's the show's showiest number. I could see other numbers (especially Loveland bits) in the montage, but I don't know how well they would work by themselves without the corresponding character arc.
I was thinking maybe Who's That Woman, too.
Who's That Woman would be awesome but I don't see how they would give neither of their two Tony-nominated leading men and one who has a good shot at winning any stage time (it wouldn't be fair to them to be honest.)
The more I think about it the more I think it has to be a medley which I'm kind of nervous about.

For Newsies, how about the Santa Fe prologue, followed by King of New York? That gives Jeremy Jordan, Andrew Keenan-Bolger and Kara Lindsay some time on the stage with the paperboys.
I feel like Jeremy will be singing the last note of "Santa Fe"..
