I am going to get crucified for this but I think Christopher Hanke and David Turner both deserved nominations and Tony Awards for their work in IN MY LIFE. Yes, the show is terrible but Hanke's characterization was so spot-on, and Turner makes the most of his role from what I can tell.
Hanke was considered for Leading, and Turner was considered for Featured.
You're not going to get crucified, but let me get this straight.
You're saying that Hanke deserved to WIN for IN MY LIFE over John Lloyd Young's performance in JERSEY BOYS, Michael Cerveris in SWEENEY TODD, Harry Connick, Jr. in THE PAJAMA GAME, and Bob Martin in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE?
You're saying that David Turner deserved to WIN for IN MY LIFE over Christian Hoff's performance in JERSEY BOYS, Danny Burstein in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, Jim Dale in THREEPENNY OPERA, and Manoel Felciano in SWEENEY TODD?
I just thought they were such unconventional roles, with probably almost no direction, terrible writing, dreadful songs and both Hanke and Turner still managed to make this roles work somehow. I find that fascinating.
Yes, it sounds crazy and no I'm not bemoaning the fact that Young or Hoffman have a Tony, but I would have voted for Hanke and Turner if given the chance.

I'm just hoping 2008 is finally Sherie's year for her Featured Actress Tony!
I don't know if this has been mentioned yet...but LEA MICHELLE for Spring Awakening... I can't believe she didn't get a nom!!!!

I think Claudia McNeil should've won Best Actress.
I know people are going to kill me for saying this, but Pirate Queen for choreography.
*kills bjh*
Kill me too Foster, because I agree. They should have AT LEAST gotten a nomination.
Well clearly the Nominating Committee was trying to make a point by snubbing the entire show.
"I don't know if this has been mentioned yet...but LEA MICHELLE for Spring Awakening... I can't believe she didn't get a nom!!!!"
*Thinks of man in interview saying she was "overlooked" and laughs*
What man, Becoz? I agree that she was overlooked. Laura Bell Bundy's nomination could have just as easily gone to Lea Michele, and frankly, with all of SPRING AWAKENING's nominations and LEGALLY BLONDE's snubs for Director and Best Musical, I'm surprised it didn't.
I agree with Lea. She was amazing and though a win over ebersole was very unlickly I feel she was snubbed and deserved the nomination especailyl after the years of work she has put in on this show.
Are you sure Sherie Rene Scott was considered featured? That just seems so odd that she was snubbed if so.
I loved Ashley Tuttle in MOVIN' OUT. I wasn't upset with her nomination.
However, if she wouldn't have been nominated, I would have liked her nomination to go to Mary Bond Davis, not Kerry Butler, for HAIRSPRAY.
I can't believe no one has mentioned this:
Amy Spanger, KISS ME KATE (revival)
I mean, come on!
Karen Ziemba Contact
Laura Benanti Swing!
Ann Hampton Callaway Swing!
Eartha Kitt The Wild Party
Deborah Yates The Wild Party
Spanger should have replaced Ann Hampton Callaway. And if not Spanger, Ruthie Henshall should have done so for PUTTING IT TOGETHER.

You mean Deborah Yates for Contact, right?
I love this thread. So, bump.

Sherie was for sure featured in Aida, although the story revolved around the three, it focused more on Aida and Radames, Amneris was a slightly minor role..I still think she could have won for Aida being that she was praised for her role and it still shocks me she was snubbed a nomination along with Aida for Best Musical because although it didn't get good reviews, it still could have won with it's success..But again I really hope Sherie wins in 08' for Best Featured Actress in The Little Mermaid.
I know she was nominated that year, but it still baffles me that Toni Collette didn't win for her brilliant performance in The Wild Party.
I'm probably repeating myself, but Barbara Walsh.
I agree about Amy Spanger.

Okay, this maybe just common knowledge, but every tony databas/index I've looked at has Joanna Gleason, who played the Baker's Wife in the OBC of Into the Woods, winning the tony for best actress in a musical in 1988, but Bernadette Peters who played the Witch wasn't even nominated?
What's up with that? Was there some technicality that prevented her from being nom'd? She did recieve a nod from the Drama Desk Award that same year.
It just seems weird simply because it seems like such an obvious choice for a performance that would win a tony, yet she didn't get a nod at all?
Peters was only in the show for about three months, as a favor to Sondheim. I believe she asked the producers to not campaign her for the Tony, or something like that. I'm not sure if that's the exact story, but someone might have a more correct answer.
Forum won Best Musical as well as 5 others but Sondheim didn't even earn a nomination. The nominess that year were:
Lionel Bart (Oliver!)
Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley (Stop the World - I Want to Get Off)
Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh (Little Me)
Milton Schafer and Ronny Graham (Bravo Giovanni)
Oliver won.
If I haven't already said this, the featured actress in a musical race in 1999 *should* have been between Orfeh and Sherie Rene Scott. The fact that neither of them were even nominated makes me angry to this day. One or the other imo, would have taken the trophy home. At least Orfeh got her long overdue nod this year and hopefully, Scott will get hers for Mermaid.
You have said that already.
Well since someone decided to bump this old a** thread unecessarily, I felt I should state it again, my perogative.
No problem, just letting you know.
