Was talking to someone in the cast tonight, apparently the current status is they are looking at the viability of opening it on Broadway towards the end of the winter.....

Only if Adam Chanler-Berat signed a 6 month contract with Rent. That show isn't going anywhere without him.
He may have had it written into to his contract an "out" clause for this opportunity.
Color me excited....I'd love for this to happen.
Assuming there'd be no Christian Borle now that he's on SMASH- really too bad, as even though the show is brilliant and fun on its on, he was really the best part of it.
The cast at NYTW was wonderful, but the show certainly has the potential to be equally wonderfully with a different cast. The creative book and direction are the real stars of the production.
I'm sure that any plans of a transfer would include the three leads. I wouldn't worry about that.

I thought it was okay, but I'm not sure if high-end kids entertainment can be sold for $125 a ticket. I don't think Adults will be that interested in a hip re-take on Peter Pan's backstory.
It might not work....but at least they are trying and they have people to believe in it (with money).
You never know what new producers will want to happen with casting. Who knows whether the actors are still available, most actors can only "wait" for so long.
If the material is good enough, there are other talented actors that can play the roles, and to great success.

I know about a dozen who were, myself included.

i don't think many adults would be interested in a hip re-take on Spiderman, a play that got awful reviews, you can see the DVD for $3 at you local video store but they still sell tickets.
Peter and the Starcatcher got really good reviews off-Broadway and will probably get god reviews on broadway. I think it will be very successful in a small Broadway house. I hope the NYTW cast comes back, they were amazing.

Clap! Clap if you believe!
I'll see it again with or without Borle. I think Starcatcher is also unique for its distiction of being an adaption of a book that is better than its original source material. Wasn't a fan of the novel, but I thought the play was deep, hilarious & incredibly inventive. Yes, I'll miss Borle (Adam I could do withor without), and I REALLY hope Celia will be involved, but no matter the cast, I will be there again.
I agree with Michael Bennett. After seeing it a few times at NYTW, I feel this is one of those cases where the show is the true star.
I didn't see it but was wondering if those who did feel it will play well in a larger house. I am assuming it was in a small theater off-Broadway.

I didn't see the show, but I know it was a "play with music". I wonder if they're going to stick with that or somehow make it into a musical.
It was in NYTW, which yes, is pretty small. I think it will suffer a bit as Scottsboro and moreso BBAJ did in a move to a larger house. I thought a lot of the magic of the show came in the feeling that it was very 'make believe'-esque- the actors used simple materials like rope, and other found objects to construct the scenes. It was very guerilla-theatre (yes, I'm misusing the term. sue me) feeling, and while it may not be immediately lost on Broadway, I think it will feel distinctly out of place among all the bright, enormous shiny things that usually occupy those theatres.
War Horse is essentially a retelling of a classic British children's story. Doesn't seem to hurt it anywhere it plays. It's arguably already one of the most successful plays to hit broadway in a long time.

i really liked the play. i especially loved the staging of molly opening the doors and seeing what's inside and would love to see that again. I do think it will suffer with a transfer to a larger venue though. The very creative use of the rope is cute in a small off-broadway theater but broadway audiences tend to want more spectacle.
i actually thought that Adam Chanler-Berat was the weak link. His voice sounds so annoyingly whiny to me. When I saw next to normal with him i thought the same thing. i thought the rest of the cast was fantastic. hopefully they can all make the move also.

I found it imaginitively staged, well acted, but on the whole forced, tedious and terribly arch and pleased with itself. Magic is a hard quality to conjure up; Peter Pan had it, this did not. Truth to tell, It was something of a slog to sit through. I think its shortcomings would only be magnified in a Broadway house.

I paid $160.00 dollars ( yes half was a donation to BC/EFA) as it was a show I really really REALLY wanted to see.

Well it's not like it's going into the Gershwin! I wonder if this wasn't a worry when "C-r-e-p-e-s-c-u-l-e" became "The 104th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" and that seemed to turn out pretty well, let's see what the creative team can do before we moan and wring out hands.
Sooooo magical! Plays are going to become a family medium!
So any updates on this?

I'm not sure I'll ever be able to express in words how much this play means to me. It was the most beautiful show I've ever seen, and I will be heartbroken if it doesn't get shown by a broader audience. I think Peter and the Starcatcher is, in fact, just the thing Broadway needs. And though I hope it reaches a Broadway audience no matter what, for me personally, because I connected with it so closely, I can't imagine seeing this show without the entire NYTW cast. Which I know is incredibly unrealistic of me, but a girl can dream.
It was the most beautiful play I've seen too, hype has to continue! I would love to see it again next season.

I agree with Sabrelady. Small shows can work well on Broadway if the material is good. A 3 person play like Driving Miss Daisy is "small" but looked great at the Golden. I didn't see Peter & The Starcatcher, but is there choreography?
Well the Booth and Golden are both booked for the time being....so.... not sure where this will go?
