Is Maxwell the Brit she lusts after?
OMG - that movie is so trippy. I wasn't aloud to watch it when I was little because of the bunker scene. Grease 1 was full game and I wore that sucker out. Both the record and the movie... MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Posted: 7/17/06 at 10:20amAnyone know why Billy Crystal hasn't been officially announced as Wilbur??? I thought it was a done deal, but his named was mentioned with the rest of the cast in the press release about Pfeiffer.

Posted: 7/17/06 at 10:27amI wasn't implying that the new film wasn't going to be good, just that I cannot get excited for it. The cast is leaving me cold, and the original film, is among my favorites. I thoroughly enjoyed the show, on stage.

"Cool Rider" by Michelle Pfeiffer is on my IPOD. I hope she takes the part. She would be ideal. I also think it would be a hoot to re-cast Debby Harry as Velma. After all Debby can sing and it would be a homage to the original film. But I guess Debby doesn't sell movie tickets in the studio's eyes.
"What about Connie Francis or Shelly Fabares-I love Shelly Fabares!"-Velma, in the original film Hairspray.

Yay!
PLUS she gets a new song? Awesome! Even though Ms. Baltimore Crabs is probably the weakest song in the show I hope they keep at least part of it and give Pfeiffer another song too!
Awesome casting!

Mateo...the film IS shooting/filming exteriors in Baltimore and interiors in Toronto.
No frets.

Posted: 7/17/06 at 11:26amThat stinks! Baltimore is a character itself in all of Waters films. The city has a look that enhances the films. I guess since it's not a John Waters movie, it wont be filmed there. That's too bad.

Yeh, its a shame.
The reason most likely has to do with shooting schedule and the casts availablitity and of course money, despite the productions dissapointment. I am sure everyone would have wanted to have Baltimore be the backdrop for certain scenes.
It sure isnt the first time a Canadian city will play for a major US city.

Posted: 7/17/06 at 11:51amHollywood doesn't seem to get it, that when they use Toronto for an American city, it looks like they've used Toronto. It never, ever plays like the city it is supposed to be. Perhaps, Toronto can double for a city like Houston, or parts of L.A., which just sort of ramble on, without any real defining character; but, never for cities like New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Baltimore!

Well most of it will be filmed 'in studio' so they will probably recreate rowhouses and all the 'baltimore' landmarks.
Only true Baltimorians will be able to tell the difference, I think. I mean, I have no first hand knowledge what Baltimore in 1962 looked like. I dont even know if Baltimore has remained untouched since then either.
(I wonder if Hairspray will have many CG effects?)
also... this quote from the full 'variety' article, I find this a delicious quote. :)
"Not only do we have her singing, which she hasn't done in a long time, but she's been a delicious villain in roles like Catwoman," Shankman said. "Velma is this amazing mess of contradictions. I'm going to dress and wig Michelle to death on this one."
