My parents decided to suprise me with tickets (which is never usually a good thing) to Phantom of the Opera this October (Halloween, coincidentally) and they bought tickets front row center. Usually, I sit in the mezzanine, so I'm quite excited to see the show from the orchestra, but i'm curious as to how good these seats are. From the pictures I saw in IBDB, it looks alright, but I'm still looking for other opinions. Also, since i've never sat front row before, the conductor's head won't be in our line of view, will it (A stupid question, but still).
IMO,front row is a bit close for most shows. While you will see the expressions on their faces and see them spit....you will lose a bit of the panaramic view and certaintly the overhead action.
But what a nice surprise! ENJOY! You will LOVE John Cudia!
Front row at Phantom is such an awesome experience! I've done it a bunch of times and the view at the Majestic is wonderful from the front row. Also since you'll be center you'll have the added benefit of having the chandelier swoop over your head which is always fun! Have a great time!
Front row is usually amazing for any show. :) You're able to see all the facial expressions and small little movements the actors do that you can't see from farther back. Only downside is that you will be looking up a bit the whole time. You have to look upward to see what's going on, otherwise it's going to be John Cudia's feet singing Music of the Night. Upstage might also be a bit hard to see; I've no idea how tall/short you are.
Anyway, it's like I said. It's really cool being able to see the actors up close. It's a lot easier to get into the show. And like Little-Lotte said, the chandelier's gonna go right over your head, which is awesome!
I wish my parents would surprise me with tickets... I had to beg my mom for orchestra seats at Phantom this Friday.

I've sat front row and it was WONDERFUL. You have to look up some of the time but I thought it was worth it.

Agree entirely...especially about the John Cudia part. Best Phantom I've ever seen! Have fun!

Unlike most shows, The Phantom of the Opera works whether you are very close or far away. A closeup view offers a fantastic glimpse at the world...you'll feel completely engulfed by the show's atmosphere.
Wouldn't it be a little difficult to see the Phantom up on the proscenium from the first row?

Got my wife front row Phantom tix for her birthday, and the seats were great. You won't miss a thing.

If this is on Broadway, then you will be fine. The orchestra pit is a bit wide from the stage to the first row, and the stage is pretty low. You'll have to look up to see the Phantom when he's on the proscenium, but even people in the Mezz don't always notice he's there, and he's not doing anything worthwhile while up there anyway (except, maybe, justifying his salary).
I have only seen half of the show from the front row. Meaning, that I ended up moving to an empty front row seat during one of my visits to The Majestic. I personally felt that it might be too hard to see the sets etc if it was your first time seeing the show. But, considering that it wasn't my first time it wasn't a problem for me at all.
The seat that I was sitting in was right in front of where the marksman stands in the pit. I am someone that HATES shows with gunshots in them due to the fact that I have very sensitive hearing. It was an awful experience being RIGHT there when the gunshot went off. That was the only bad part about being in the front row.

I've seen the show before three times, so I'm mainly going for my friend, who loves the movie and the music. I can pretty easily warn her when the gunshot will go off.
