Coincidentally, I've been listening to various recordings of Phantom lately. After being mired in the depths of unreleased or soopah rare or obscure recordings for the last few years, I've decided to re-visit some of the more popular shows, and Phantom is one of them.
Phantom is really growing on me again, the production, the music, the whole thing is very good because it really creates a world. I enjoy listening to it in German and Japanese these days more than English, but I'm still finding that I get pulled in.
I'm trying to collect every cast album of it there is. and then I go on to Les Mis. Les mis has always felt "epic" but not nearly as organic as POTO
Just my 2 cents.

Apparently Webber's cat climbed onto the digital piano and erased all the music. Don't believe me? It's on playbill.com!

It a cats' revenge for creating the HORRIBLE show cats.

There is no ALW Les Mis.
I prefer Phantom to Les Mis but only but a little bit. I do love them both, but I think Phantom has a little more...something in it. I mean, Les Mis packs so much emotion and angst into one show to the point where it's overwhelming and you start to wonder why you should even care (at least that was how I felt watching the recent Bway version, I don't get that watching the TAC)

Yeah, there is! musicalmaster said, he never lies.

Les Mis by a long shot for me, too.
I simply cannot endure Phantom. On a weekend trip with my HS students, I am ditching them (they'll have other chaperones) to see Cry Baby while they watch Phantom (they chose it). Life it too short.
