Posted: 8/6/09 at 5:45pmHonestly, Beth was the single best thing about the production. I saw it on Tuesday as well. She was pretty much the only inspired performance of then night. The rest of the actors were a bore. BRAVO BETH!!

It's terrible that I'm judging from a 6 and a half minute montage, but it just looked like they hadn't found their characters yet. Honestly, the most impressive part of that clips WAS Jen Cody. I think Beth Leavel looked out of place in her role, and the rest of the cast looked like they were rehearsing. Jen Cody, although she looked ridiculous, seemed to be the only person that reciting lines and singing tunes, she seemed to have developed her character. It's a shame this production seems to be so sloppy. I hope I'm wrong though!

I'm just gonna put this out there...
They put this show up in 72 hours. I mean, sure, there are more appropriate people for Little Red, but they needed someone who they trusted to learn all that material in 72 hours. And, Jen Cody has worked for them in the past and shown she can. Maybe it didn't turn out quite as anyone hoped, but that's the reasoning I can imagine behind the choice.

Typical BroadwayWorld. See some photos and decide it's crap.
The video looks promising. Jen Cody didn't cast herself. Who wouldn't want to play that role. She's a wonderful performer who gets lumped into the chorus on Broadway (and always is a wonderful standout). Why wouldn't she want to do a run in a great role with her husband in a great role. Leavel looks fantastic too. So the costumes are a little rough around the edges. Get over it. Looks a million times better than that misguided crap of a revival we got on Broadway.

Posted: 8/6/09 at 11:23pmI actually liked the design of the revival. I thought it was gorgeous. I also really liked the revisions, but I know I'm in the minority on that one.

Posted: 8/6/09 at 11:23pmHow does Pittsburgh CLO have all this money to cast so much Bway talent in each show? I can't think of any other CLO (not even Sacramento or St. Louis) that can afford the lvel of talent that they do. How did they get so rich?

I also think having an adult play Red allows for smarter choices with the material (I've seen some dreadful kids as Red who didn't get any of the diminuendo).

How much do they pay the Equity Guest Artists there?
Must be a ****eload.
Sutton Foster, Nell Carter, Charles Durning,
Malcolm Gets, Victoria Clarke, Hunter Foster,
Beth Leavel, Etc. Etc. Etc.
What's up Pittsburgh?
Could Jen Cody be making more than SHREK?
Of course, spending Hotel time with Hunter is always a plus.

PCLO does not use the Guest Artist contract. They are mainly under the RMTA (Resident Musical Theatre Association) agreement, though according to the Equity website they also use the LORT Non-Rep, LOA, and Cabaret contracts as well. Minimums for the RMTA agreement are as follows:
Actors - $951
Stage Managers - $1310
Assistant Stage Managers - $989

The video is not doing he production any favors. It makes the show look like a big bore!
And it is more than 3 minutes of video and several clips longer than 30 consecutive seconds! How did they get away with breaking those AEA rules?

I saw this afternoon's matinee and thought it superb. I can find no fault with it at all.
This very long show seemed to whiz by. Hunter Foster, Brynn O'Malley, Beth Leavel, Tim Hartman, Jen Cody, Keven Earley, Stanley Bahorek, Greggory Brandt...all brilliant.
Beautifully sung and acted. I'm VERY happy I made the trip.
