I will be in NYC next month and am trying to decide between Pippin and Kinky Boots for our second show to see. I saw a production of Pippin a few years ago at the Mark Taper in LA with Michael Arden and loved it. My husband is on the fence about Kinky Boots and he is pretty particular about the shows he will see. He generally likes plays better but his favorite musicals are Into the Woods, Jersey Boys, Rent and Wicked. Thanks!
I personally think that you can't go wrong with either, although I figure that most people will lean toward Pippin

Whichever you decide (I enjoyed both; tough choice), get tickets right away because both are selling out, or close to it.

I would go with Kinky Boots - because you have already had a Pippin experience.
You won't go wrong with either but frankly, it may be which one you can get tickets for being they are both selling really well.
Pippin.
But unless gay themes make him uncomfortable, you can't go wrong with either.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I figured we couldn't go wrong with either and will probably choose whichever one I can get the better seats. I think the Kinky Boots tour will stop in LA but I am such a Billy Porter fan so I may need to see it now.
Forgot to mention he is totally fine with gay themes..we've seen several shows with them (i.e. La Cage, Spring Awakening) I just think he doesn't find the synopsis for Kinky Boots that appealing, although he didn't hate the Tony number
I know the Kinky Boots tour is starting in Vegas, but I'm not sure if it'll be a sit down engagement, which would preclude LA as a stop.

I have not seen Pippin yet, but if you are a Billy Porter fan, you should see Kinky Boots and hope that he will be there (if you are going to see him specifically, you should check if there's any vacation schedules just in case). He is fantastic as Lola. I saw it the week before the Tonys, and he brought down the house! And also, if your husband liked the Tony performance somehow, I think he'll like the show. There are many great songs in there, some better than "Everybody Say Yeah" in my opinion. Stark Sands also has great songs and an amazing voice.
But Pippin is also a wonderful show (I am looking forward to seeing it after October). I agree that you cannot go wrong with either show. Have fun!
Hate to agree with everyone but you really can't go wrong with either. If your looking for a fun night definetly Kinky Boots. And especially if you're a fan of Billy Porter. But at the same time, Pippin is amazing and Andrea Martin is great. Not as fun necessarily but both are really great. Enjoy whichever one you see!
