I have searched and reasearched and would really appreciate some help. I am looking for good musical theatre schools in Boston. I am visiting soon and would like to look at some. Right now I have Emerson and BU (except that they don't have a musical theatre major). Please help!!!!!!!

Thanks Jwei. I have looked at that but I need a university that gives a major- not a conservatory. Unless Boston Conservatory has a joint enrollment program. Any others? Very important!

I second that - Boston Conservatory. A friend of mine is in the graduate program there and has conducted the music for a couple of the undergraduate productions. I was very impressed with the talent and the overall quality.
Ooh, sorry, Ashley. I don't know if they offer joint enrollment. I know that the Conservatory created some kind of a special graduate program for my friend. Why not see if there are some faculty advisors there who could help you out?
I went to Emerson College. There are pros and cons to this school. While I was there, I felt it moved a little too slow. I was bothered that we didn't do more scene study, character development and voice/theory. The Conservatory does this 24/7 and my thought was that this biz is SO competitive...I want to really WORK in school. Though, it is a good school comparatively and is better for musical theatre, obviously, than BU...I had a friend there at the same time. Emerson is a GREAT blend of University/Conservatory. While the musical theatre program is run like a Conservatory, the school is not. If you lack talent or commitment, you won't be asked to leave, but you'd be advised to rethink things...whereas in a conservatory program they'd say..."see you later!" Emerson also really believes in cultivating other skills, such as stage-craft, casting, etc. so that you can work in the industry and support yourself while trying to land that acting gig! There's a GREAT alumni connection and a lot of "famous" alumni who often visit to discuss the craft. Feel free to email me if you need more info.
Boston is a fantastic city to go to school in. Good luck!
I went to the boston conservatory for 2 years before transferring to the cincinnati conservatory of music. email me if you have any questions...i'd be more than happy to help!
I go to BU and it does not have a musical theater major. The cloest you can get is Vocal Performance or Theatre Arts. The acting and dance classes are great. The vocal performances focus much more on classical technique.
