wow i wish i messaged this thread MUCH earlier. I feel the need to quote someone.
“when you live in a glass house you really should not throw stones.”
Where you expecting sunshine when you wrote this good-bye message? By the way, I just want to give a little holler to theatre boy who said everything I wanted to say with a more articulate tone.
I think it’s unfortunate that a member of BWW would want to leave, but let’s face it guys, negativity is everywhere no matter what. It’s in our lives, our thoughts, the shows we know and love, even the actors we know and love (whether they show it or not), and of coarse our message boards. Someone before said that people do it to be funny or to egg other people on. Keep that in mind.
Also, actors get over the negative criticism. They’d have to otherwise they wouldn’t be actors. That’s the thing about them, they have a certain level of ego that hopefully doesn’t go to their head but it also helps them not care so much about the extreme negativity by some theatre go-ers. They know that the same amount of people, maybe more love them. I think it’s silly to want to leave a message board because everything isn't said nicely.
What would the world be like if absolutely everyone was nice about EVERYTHING? Kinda boring. This way we get to argue and get to learn more about the other side. If this small amount a negativity really affects you that much, you need a therapist in order to deal with the world because we’ll all have to deal with it for the rest of our lives.
Believe me, actors wouldn’t be actors if they didn’t expect to be bashed by anyone. Not everyone can love you, and I personally think comments such as "teaching someone how to be untalented" is minor to what most people consider nasty or vile.
