Any of the four main award shows are a "BIG" commitment to host; the Oscars aren't some kind of massive exception. I think at this point, it'd be that NPH doesn't want to host this year (for any number of reasons, including giving someone else a chance), not that the network doesn't want him hosting. He's kind of on top of the world right now, and a very well loved host. The network knows that. With that said, I don't think NPH has any sort of "break" planned. He is absolutely killing it right now and I don't think he plans to stop any time soon. As far as I'm concerned, and from what I've heard, he's got a few more tricks up his sleeve before the end of this year.

Michael Riedel and Ken Davenport both predicted that Fallon would host the '15 Tonys. He'd be great. He could help give the show the ratings it needs.
Colbert could also be wonderful, and is NY-based and within the "CBS family" if they're really concerned about a conflict of interest with NBC.
EDIT: Colbert's stint as Late Show host won't have even started yet, so it could be good publicity for his start in summer/fall.

Plain and simple, Fallon can't do it because of his affiliation with NBC.
I wish WISH they'd have Idina do it. She'll be touring so she couldn't do it this year regardless but I'd love to see her host in the future. She's already entertained a full house at Radio City when she performed there herself and I think she's a name enough now that she could draw an audience. Give her a strong team of writers and she could crush it.
If not her then PLEASE Andrew rannels and Laura benanti

Strong possibility is James Corden since he is the new host of the Late Show on CBS and I like the idea of Nathan Lane & Matthew Broderick fresh from It's Only On A Play on Broadway that just extended till June.
Fallon no since he is contracted with NBC.

I'd say James Corden would be the best guess. And I'd totally be okay with that!
I wouldn't rule out Fallon that easily, though. Network contracts can be negotiated for special events such as hosting a major award show.
For example: Ellen DeGeneres is aired on NBCUniversal/Telepictures owned networks, and she hosted the Academy Awards on ABC… and Letterman currently airs Late Show with David Letterman on CBS and originally debuted as Late Night with David Letterman on NBC. He has also hosted the Academy Awards, also on ABC. And these are a few of many. So...
I love Idina - but she'd be a drag as a host, I think. Unpleasant, even.
Now Andrew Rannells… THAT I'd LOVE to see! He'd be charming as f*ck.

James Corden wouldn't be filming in the summer, right? He'd be on hiatus...so it's still possible that he could host.
Rosie O'Donnell and/or Whoopi Goldberg are likely options.
Martin Short is a nice possibility.
Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan would be a cute idea.

Posted: 2/1/15 at 4:40amWould love to see Laura Benanti hosting. It would probably be a bit too awkward to have NPH hosting when his husband is eligible for a leading actor Tony for his new musical. Would feel like nepotism if David Burtka won (yes, i realize the host does not decide the awards) and awkward if he lost.

Posted: 2/1/15 at 10:31amI think that's a bit of a stretch. I don't think it's that uncommon for hosts to have biases and still host well. Sean Hayes hosted the Tonys the same year that he HIMSELF was nominated! That's the only example that came to my head, but I'll bet there are many more situations like that

A little off topic: won't Burtka be in Supporting?
And on topic: Would love to see Corden and Benanti host together.

"I wish WISH they'd have Idina do it."
As much as I enjoy Menzel's concert banter and awkward hilarity during interviews, I really don't think she'd make a great host. That seems way out of her element or something. Lots of other interesting possibilities in this thread, though.

Not really the tonight show... It's only been in New York for a year, not even, Although it did have the last ship on.

Posted: 2/1/15 at 8:52pm^^^ So your issue is that when the show was taped in Los Angeles, they never invited Broadway shows to perform, moreso than the fact that as soon as the show relocated to NYC they have?
