Possible Tony Hosts

Posted: 1/31/15 at 5:20pmJames Corden is a definite possibility. The show is on CBS and he is the new host of the Late, Late Show on CBS. Jim Parsons also has the CBS connection with Big Bang Theory. Parsons would be the more familiar face.

Posted: 1/31/15 at 5:43pmCorden's new show will have just started, and he might be too busy working on that to host. Parsons could maybe make sense, but I don't see him being a very engaging host in the way that NPH and Hugh Jackman have been.

Posted: 1/31/15 at 6:06pmSeems like the only possible/logical choices mentioned are Parsons, Corden, Whoopie,Jessie Tyler Ferguson,Rosie O'Donnell or NPH...I HIGHLY doubt Chenoweth and Alan Cumming have even been CONSIDERED...not sure about Tomlin....the other choices mentioned have left me scratching my head.

^She may prove to be an interesting choice...I just doubt she'll end up being the host.

Benanti would be great! And, if producers want a name, they could pair her up with Anna Kendrick! They both seem to have similar senses of humor.

Some people I'd love to see host the Tonys (even though I realize many of them are unlikely):
Seth Rudetsky
David Hyde Pierce
Andrea Martin
Jane Krakowski
Bill Irwin
Jackie Hoffman
Also I love the idea of either Corden or Parsons hosting

Does NPH's Oscar gig make the Tonys unlikely, in the sense that they might have contractually stipulated he not host another awards show this season? Or do the Oscars not care about such things?
Of course, that would upend my theory that he is coming back to Hedwig after JCM to close out the run...

Posted: 1/31/15 at 7:35pmThe Tonys are in June... he can take a break. Other than NPH and Jackman, Corden is the only realistic option, given that CBS will need to be pushing him as the host of his late night show on the network anyway. Otherwise, they really push the emphasis on famous movie and TV people with theater leanings for ratings. I mean, was it coincidental that NPH as Hedwig happened to choose Orlando Bloom, Samuel L. Jackson, Kevin Bacon and Sting to pick on? He knows how the show works...

Simply because his show is shot out in LA, I would say it's pretty unlikely for Corden to host. The hosts (in a perfect world) need to see all the shows (or at least the 'big shows') and do some New York-based prep work. I can't see him being able to take a week+ off from his new show 3 months after it starts.
Parsons could be fantastic, and Ferguson could also be great.
I doubt NPH would host the Tonys, because of his Oscars gig. It may even be in his Oscars agreement not to host 2 major awards shows in the same calendar/awards year. I remember an article with Zadan and Meron a while back where they said they needed a host who wasn't already hosting an awards show this season.
What about Nathan Lane & Matthew Broderick (again)? Or Bryan Cranston or Kevin Spacey?

Ahh, I got Corden and Colbert's start dates mixed up... yeah, that would be tight for Corden so close after his launch.
Then again, that does bring up... Colbert.
