Potter: London vs. NYC

Edit bot gonna delete my post but basically you can disregard it bc it's based on old/outdated and possibly misremembered information.



The friend I took to the first preview had seen the show in London and she told me a few of the changes. Most of them were things added or improved, there were a handful of dream sequences that were not in London, she also said some of the make up and special effects were greatly improved. Nothing substantial but she made it sound like the NYC version is just slightly improved.

I've seen it twice in London, but haven't noticed any additional "dream sequences" that weren't in the London production (but I saw it in September and January, so perhaps they are recent additions that have also transferred). I know there have been some minor script changes, and the retirement home scene is different.

Interesting, she saw it a while back with the original cast in London and said that the grave scene was new (but maybe she just didn't remember it? Since I just saw it is in the script, which I've still not read) and also that the big baddy at the very end had horrible makeup and was so much better in the Broadway version. Maybe those were added/fixed after she saw it since no one else mentions those being different .

I can only guess that the accident was at the final battle because we noticed on moment was removed and it went a lot faster (and others in the review thread like the change for character reasons, which I agree with). Didn't know it was changed due to an accident, though.



She did also mention additional shenanigans in the old folks home, which I'd forgotten about until you brought it up.

I saw it in London back in October 2016 and saw the first Bway preview so I probably forget any changes if there were any. I do remember that something was off with the Delphi on Broadway and when I checked the playbill I noticed she wasn't in the London production so I guess it'll take time for Delphi's chemistry with Albus/Scorpius to develop in terms of timing etc.

Overall, I do remember that the Palace theatre in London is taller and the stage is narrower. There were 4 floors of seats (stalls, dress circle, grand circle, and balcony) in London whereas in NYC there are only 3 floors (orch, dress circle, balcony).

Curious to hear when this changed because this Wednesday night (4/11) this was definitely in the Broadway Production.
